Hi - I'll be in your shoes shortly - I first have to get off Paxil and Dr. has me lined up for Effexor - may I ask you what dosage of paxil you were on and how did you get off of them - I'm finding it real hard to get off of. I feel sick, nervous, crying, anxiety etc.
tks

hey scooter,

yeah the big problem with paxil is trying to get off it,i was on 30 mg of paxil.what i did is slowly went down the dosage from 30 mg to 20mg then from 20 to 15 mg then finally to 5 mg but this doesnt happen over night unfortunatley,it takes a while to slowly wean off paxil because of the side affects.it all depends on the individual as to your tolerence levels and if you can cope ok with the rise and fall of anxiety levels, all i can say is scooter, keep in close contact with your doctor when you are coming off paxil,it is a very strong drug and you have to be careful with the side affects.im with you all the way my friend it can get hard at times so what i did,as i eventually got close to been totally of paxil i started effexer on 37.5 mg to kind of pull me back around instead of completley going cold turkey on all medication,i felt that effexer might pull me out of the side affects from paxil and it did but that is just i wanted to do for myself please be careful scooter what you do.
good luck and i wish you strength with going clean with paxil,i made it so i have confidence that you will too, keep me informed as to how you go and i will try and help you as much as possible.

Hi,

I'm on Effexor for two days now and started to feel side effects after two hours: naussia, sweaty hands and a bit "spaced".

This morning i woke up feeling sick almost like i had to vomit. When i looked in the miror while brushing my teeth i noticed i had large pupils. A moment later i got so dizzy that i had to sit down on the couch for 20 minutes before it went away. It's seems to be pretty heavy stuff and it reminded me of my experiences with XTC.

During the day i felt dizzy, naussia and had short moments of feeling "fantastic" like i had a lust for life. I feel strange all day and have difficult focusing on my computerscreen. It's like being on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and physical symptomes.

All in all pretty strange to have such effects after two days, but i will hang on and see what the effects will be on the long term.

Succes,

Jake

Hello Lee,

I started with Effexor XR because of a depression. I'm currently on 75 mg.

I've done some research about Effexor and one thing that frightens me is the possibility of lack of sex-drive. I read that it can totally destroy your sex-life and that you even can get impotent!

I would like to know if other users have had any problems with this. Are there people out there on Effexor who have a normal sex-life?

Good luck Lee,

Jake

Hi Jake.......
I have been on effexcr rx for quite awhile now. I take 150 mgs a day. It is the only depression drug I have had that doesn't give me sexual side effects.

Hi. I just stopped effexor because it was awful for me. (Note: I went off this drug as prescribed in detail by my doctor over a course of three weeks and still felt this way.) The side effects while on it included insomnia, severe night sweats, and full blown sinusitis (which at first i did not know was due to the drug but later realized). Coming off of it will make you feel like you are dying. You may experience zapping throughout your body. Mine has been localized in my chest lately making me feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. I feel that the zapping is so unnatural and dangerous that this drug should not even be out there. I'm also suffering very serious flu-like symptoms and constant over-emotionality. It did at first calm some emotional problems, but I would trade it all back now for what it's done to me physically. I'm making it my personal duty now to tell anyone in your shoes so that you are fully informed when sometimes doctors don't tell you or don't know because A. they have never taken it, and B. this drug has not been studied for long enough. My advice is there is something out there better for your body and long-term health. I wish you luck.

JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU TRY TO GET OFF THE EFFEXOR. IT"S THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD........BRAIN TREMORS, NOSE BLEEDS, NAUSEA, VOMITTING, ....MANY, MANY HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS....READ SOME OF THE QUOTES ON "EFFEXOR". SIDE EFFECTS WHILE TAKING, A LOT OF WEIGHT GAIN, NOSE BLEEDS, DIZZINESS, BLOATING, NO LIBIDO, HOT SWEATS, INSOMNIA, DEPRESSION, MANY, MANY SIDE EFFECTS. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF YOU ARE TAKING THIS AND ASK THEM TO DO RESEARCH FOR YOU ON SIDE EFFECTS BEING ON EFFEXOR AND GETTING OFF....GOOD LUCK!!

I have experienced many of the side effects myself.
I have been on 75MG for a year of XR.

Now, I have little to no sex drive, sometimes feeling impotent.
I am not there yet, but it is coming for sure.

It even reaches a point when you don't want to pleasure yourself any longer and it literally can be painful to have sex.
You feel nearly numb down below aside from the friction.
Sweat like a heart attack is coming on and likely completely disappoint and confuse your partner.
three is almost zero pleasurable satisfaction with the deed any longer.
Its disgusting.

I am a 30 year old male and have always been rip roaring ready with a healthy appetite.

This is the only medication I am on and I know for sure its directly related.

I don't look forward to the weaning process....
I have missed medicating myself for days at a time in the past and it is the worst experience in my life.

Jitters, constant tremors, extremely dark circles under my eyes, total lack of concentration, sweating profusely, extreme blood pressures and more, zero patience, pounding chest.
The headaches are ungodly.

Aside from the headaches, all of these are currently plaguing me when properly medicated (1 - 75mg a day)

If I could give advice, I would say, its worked very well for me, until now.
the year has been its length of stay for my body. Its starting to destroy me.
It did however work great at curbing my short fuse and keep me focused up until now.

If you are going on this drug to counteract a divorce, or the likes.. I would try other means, or keep its length of stay to a minimum.
Once you decide your ready to get back in the saddle, you will want to smash your own head in from the total lack of the big finish.

DONT DO IT!!!

I quit effexor cold turkey after 2.2 months and am still dealing with physical withdrawals 5 months later. Sore stiff muscles, dry eyes, fatigue and sore tendons.

Not a good med.....

Default Effexor

Hi guys,
I have been on Effexor XR 150mg for about 6 months. The biggest problem with me is the "dry and burning eyes." To many people this wouldn't seem like a big deal, but let me tell you I is HORRIBLE. I go through a bottle a visine eye drops in 2 days. Using the drops at least 2 times every hour. I also cannot sleep. Although I really don't think that's due to the Effexor. Overall I would say that there is probably better medication out there and only to use Effexor if nothing else worked.

Around this time last year I came off Paxil and started effexor. After a few weeks I felt alot better but that only lasted for about 8 months and I attempted suicide again. Now I am on prozac for about a few weeks. It works different for everyone, so I hope you feel better.

Exclamation dry eye

You have to be careful with effexor u can develop chronic dry eye from it. If you do you will need to go to prescription eye drops like me. Restasis and acualr i found are th most effective. Even though i am off effexor (thank goodness) i still have chronic dry eye from it.

Thumbs down Effexor = BAD

Im glad u asked. I will first tell your in for a long haul with this drug. Some side effects are: headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido and a host of other sexual dysfunctions, lowered blood pressure, gas, anorexia, twitching, shock-like sensations, chronic dry eye, suicidal thoughts (ironic b/c the drug is supposed to prevent them), and difficultly excreting. In additon to this Effexor is known to be the worst drug to come off of. it took em 6 months and many ppl have had problems from the drug even after they were off it.

Im not hear to scare you im hear to inform you.

If you have any questions email me gjf711@gmail.com

gjf711: I have been off effexor for 6 months now and my dry eye has gotten a lot better. How long have you been off? Do you thinkthe dry eye will last forever? uggh!

Kevin9494: I agree!! The dry eye symptom is unbarable!!!

Everyone: Make sure that you wean very slowly off effexor. I was on it for 2.5 months and couldnt stand the side effects so I went off cold turkey. It has taken me 6 moths to feel remotely normal.

Default effexor

ive been on effexor since june of 2004.... 37.5 and upped it over the years...im at 150 mgs now, and thats only been a year on 150 but its enough for me.
at first, after a few weeks, it worked and then after that it stopped. i tried to get off it, hell my body wakes up the next morning with withdrawls from the medication, thats how bad my body is used to it.... i hate the pill, it doesnt do anything for me, i wanna switch, im in the process with the help of 2 physicians to get off it and onto somethign else, it doesnt work for me, and im mad that i was kept on it for so long, because the side effects, just after 1 month of 37.5 mgs a day left me for 3 days in a near psychotic state..... i cant imagine now, theres obviously a way to decrease it under a doctors care, but i wouldnt recommend anyone effexor, it was good for a little while and i mean a few weeks and after that, gone..... just a stupid pill i had to take so i wouldnt feel hungover like i drank 24 beers the night before.
if this scares anyone, im only being honest, i hate that pill. i cant wait till im off it for good.

i never knew why my eyes were always dry, i cant wear contact lenses for any length of time, it kills my eyes..... dry, burning, ugh.....
also, the sex drive, the whole thing of sex, is completly gone for me sometimes, i dont have the need to do it, it sucks, i hate it, ive begun taking natural vitamins for help with this issue, whick shouldnt be an issue, im 24 years old. im at the peak of my testosterone levels really.... yet i feel like an 80 year old man.....
that in itself is depressing, when sex feels like its a job and it hurts after awhile, thats pain and depressing...... ive been dealing with that for years and im so fed up.

i hate effexor, i hate it and cant wait to change it.

hi all - my 1st post

i must be very lucky b/c i've not had nearly the same problems most of you have had

i started effexor xr in feb - 37.5mg/day for 2 weeks then 75mg/day
at the 4 week mark my skin/nerves got all tingly - i also felt like i was on viagra, but i couldn't 'finish' b/c of lack of sensation
at the 6 week mark the tingling went away and the sensations returned - my wife says sometimes i last too long for her now

i was thinking of getting off it but maybe i'll stay on it for the time being b/c i have not had any major problems on it - and some of your stories kinda scare me...

the only real negative problem i have is if i forget to take a dose by the next day i'm irritable and get mad easy - however that signals me to take my next dose
also i do have major dry-eyes, thought it was just me

that's my experience...
