Angry Neurofen Plus Addiction

Hi all, Where to start? Well in 1997 i was diagnosed with a prolapsed(slipped) Disk and was put on Coneine Phosphate. 9 Years later, 4 operations and 2 detox's i am back on them again. I spent most of last year on Subutex through a clinic and in december 2006 stopped them totally, Felt Great and everything started to fall back into place. About a month ago i was ill with Very Violent and bloody Diahreah so i went to see my GP and he told me to only Eat Cold Dry Toast and to drink only water. He gave me some Diarolyte to rehydrate any fluids that i lost. Well 2 weeks later i was still running every 2-4 hrs or so so i tried to see him again. I was unable to get an appointment so he wrang me instead and said that he would leave a script for me to collect. When i collected this script i was not impressed as he had prescribed me Codeine, He knows that i used to be addicted to the stuff and had problems getting off, but after having the runs for almost 2 weeks solid (and a backside that probably looks like a japanese flag) i thought "Sod It" Small course, i will be fine. How wrong was i?

I have now finished this course of medication and started to feel really bad, The runs have stopped so i went back to see my GP and told him what was going on and asked him for help. The olny thing he said was "You will be fine. It will pass".

It has'nt passed, and now i have started taking the Neurofen Plus again!!

Starting from tommorow i am going to try and stop using them again, aswell as quitting smoking (Maybe not the best step).

The last time i got help i was offered 2 courses of treatment, Subutex or Methadone. Well as far as i am concerned Methadone is a step backwards not forwards and this time i cant get an appointment for a couple of month as i am not classed as "An important Case". Im Spending anything up to £15 per day on these tablets and cant afford that as i am also un-employed.

Today i bought 32 Neurofen Plus and within 4 hours had taken them all ( Used to take up to 96 per day ) so i am hoping that i wont get the w/d's as bad. Untill today i had gone 48hrs without anything and couldnt eat or sleep. I keep getting hot and cold flushes aswell as stomach pains, Anxiety attacks and the other Side Effects associated with Detox.

Can anyone give me any advice or list any O.T.C medication that will help with the detox? I have got some Loperimide to help my stomach but am having real probs with the Anxiety attacks.

Can anyone advise me as what will help? I have detoxed twice before but both times i had help through the NHS.

I could recommend some meds to help reduce the side effects of detox, but at this point, you really need to talk to your doctor... better yet, get a better doctor -- someone who cares instead of brushes you off. This is something you will need professional help with, not an internet forum. Don't mess around, man. This is serious -- not just with the ridiculous amounts of codeine you're taking, but with the extremely high doses of ibuprofen (you may be taking Nurofen for the codeine, but there's 200 mg of ibuprofen per tablet).

That much ibuprofen will completely rip up your stomach, intestines, and kidneys. Do you want to die from internal bleeding due to severe ulcers in your digestive tract? Do you want to permanently damage your kidneys? Do you know what life is like for someone with chronic kidney failure? Dialysis 3x a week, your health deteriorates gradually until your systems shut down one by one.

You can't tell if you're damaging your kidneys until they're already damaged. You may think you're fine now, but one day you'll wake up sick as a dog, go to the hospital, and the doctor will tell you that your kidneys are not functioning and you will need dialysis.

You need to stop and you need professional help, but the professional help is not immediately available. So get someone you trust. Tell him/her about your problem and ask them to be supportive, but non-judgemental. Ask them to monitor you on a daily basis and step in when your willpower fails. Start tapering off gradually now and make sure you get into rehab.

You can do it. It's not easy, but you can. You know you can. But you're afraid of the pain and the suffering. You're associating it with negativity and automatically react to do whatever you need to do to relieve the pain and suffering. So you take some more. But if you associate the pain and suffering with positivity and think of it as a sign of progress... a sign that this means you're getting better bit by bit... if you know that it's going to hurt and say instead "bring it on you f***kers", then you're not going to automatically do anything to avoid the suffering, but instead, embrace it.

You'll need help along the way, but ultimately, it's really up to you. If you really want to quit, you will.

Collagek, I really feel for you man. If anyone should be classified "An Important Case" it should be you. Get a new Doctor, Now. Just my advice, bud. Take control of the situation, and remember whose boss here.
