I would like to know how long a person can take Meridia for? My doctor started me on a three month trial and it is working for me but I am unsure of the long term effects that this drug may have on a person.

Longterm effects are that you will start reacting to it being a stimulant likely resulting in dependency, you could start have sleeping problems, high blood pressure, it can cause cardiovascular problems, there are lots of potential side effects of longterm use.

I would NOT take meridia longterm. That's me. I understand that being seriously overweight causes major health risks and that diet pills can have a place. But I surely wouldn't take them longterm. I would get off them as soon as I had lost weight. Even the drugs.com link says it's for short term use only. God bless.

Hey

If the medication is working for you, then it is great.

Also it depends what dose you are taking.

Person with High Blood pressure, Kidney and Liver problems should be cautious and consult their doctor.

Usually here in Australia can be taken for a year providing all blood tests are within normal range and side effects are not distressing.

Although there is no study for a year intake of this medication.
