Default Lyrica VS. Strong Pain Meds

Ok, I have really bad Osto arthritis. Rumatic doc. prescribed 400mg Lyrica a day. Take and helps my pain.
Now,
I recently had Back surgery. I went off all my strong pain meds because of fear of addiction even though I still have a lot of pain. So what I did was increase my Lyrica on my own and my back/leg pain went away 95%.

At my last vist with my back doc I told him I went off the strong meds and what I was taking was 600 to 800mg a day Lyrica I told him I would be running out because I was only percribed 400mg a day. He then asked if I needed a prescription for the lyrica. At the time I said know because my bottle was still half full. STUPID ME!

So my bottle ran out I call the back doc and the nurse told me to get it from prescribing rumatic doc. Rumatic doc gets pissed because I was takin more then he originaly prescribed and was never notified of surgery. Then refused to increase.
So I call my back doc, and nurse told me 400mg of Lyrica is the max dosage and I should have never gone off my pain meds. She told me to continue my pain meds and stay with the regular dose of Lyrica your other doc prescribed.

??? I don't understand why they would rather have me take Oxycontin and lyrica then just increase lyrica?????

Is this a situation where I'm stuck between two doctors. Since my pain is greater caused by my back doc should he just prescribe the stronger dose of lyrica? I was told the max dose was 600mg a day. So what gives.

Lyrica isn't a medication that we take like we do with opiates. Lyrica is really more for nerve related pain. I don't believe you should be taking such high amounts of lyrica either.

I know the drs don't want you to take oxy and lyrica both for a long time. But if you need pain meds from the surgery the oxy would likely be a better medication for at least the short term to handle your acute pain.

I think you should see your dr, not the Rheumatologist but surgeon. Explain what happened IN PERSON. Make an appt for tomorrow if you can possibly get in. Say its an emergency if you have to. Dr will likely help you rather than the nurse. Some of them act like they are the dr. And of course some are good too. But you need to see the dr and get this straightened out. Just go back to see the Rheumatologist when the time is due. Good luck and God bless.
