Default lexapro and difficulty falling asleep

Hello, my doc prescribed me lexapro 10mg for anxiety.

I am on lexapro for 6 weeks already and it works for my anxiety.

So far the worst side effect for me is that it is difficult to fall asleep.
I take the tab on/about 2000 hours and when it is bed time, I make circles in the bed for at least 1 hour, before falling asleep.

Is there something I can do to overcome this?

Thanks

Preza,

When I was prescribed Lex 6 months ago, my doc told me that it makes some people sleepy, so taking it at night is good, but it makes others wired, so for them morning is better. She told me it didn't matter which I chose, but I should experiment and see which worked better for me. Obviously for you evening/night isn't working, so why not try the morning? I was on 20mg, but I am currently trying to wean myself off it, so I'm now alternating 10 and 15mg daily, always in the morning. I had hoped it would help me sleep, but I'm a definitely in the wired category, like you.

cheers,
Sam

Sam thanks. I understand from yours that I have to experiment to find the proper time for me to take lexapro.

Just a further question, for an average anxiety, should I increase the dose to 15mg? Maybe 10mg is too low after a couple of months?

get off Lexapro - u wont like it when the time comes to withdraw from it. U think your anxiety is bad now? Wait til you get off it...also, 10mg is NOT small. Lexapro is POTENT.

Thanks for your reply Aeroman.

Lexapro has helped me so far. As per my doctor advices suppose to increase the quality of my anxious life. So far so good with this.

About getting off it: are you sure?
Can I cure completely my anxiety with lexapro and then slowly get off it? Anxiety always returns?

I was on lex for 2.5 years and it also helped me. But what the doc forgot to mention to me was the w/d's that occur when you stop taking it. Now, he weened me off to fast (1 month). I've been off for 7 months now and I am still living through this mess. Increased hypersensitive anxiety, depression, restlessness, and other stuff. I am not trying to scare you but be warned about this drug. You ask me if I am sure....go onto Featured Conditions in this website and look up Lexapro W/D's - look how many posts and views it has received - 303 pages!!!!!!!!!!! Lexapro will not cure anything. It only masks the symptoms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least, apart from the admitted stiff withdrawal procedure, it is certain that anxiety always comes back?

I am asking because lets say that I can bear couple of months of difficult withdrawal syndromes if I cure the anxiety.

Alternatively what else do you suggest?

Thanks a lot Aeroman

to be honest with you, I am not sure if you will get your intense anxiety back. I know I did because I was tapered off too quickly. know what I mean? And even if you do, there are other non-drugs ways of handling it. When you feel it is time, remember to taper off the medication SLOWLY. It doesnt mean you wont get side effects from withdrawal. We're all different. I know the anxiety sucks. There are times I feel like I am losing my mind. Just remember, it is JUST a sensation - it wont hurt you. Sure it feels awful but so what? Why fear it? It wont do anything to you!!!!

Thanks, now back to the initial question can I use "Solgar Valerian Root Extract" as a sleeping aid, while I am on lexapro?

OK the last 2 weeks I followed thailandsam suggestion and took lexapro first thing in the morning. In the night the things are better when its bedtime but not good enough - it takes sometime to fall asleep and occasionally hours.

Valerian doesn't help as I wish, is there a solution for my problem?

I don't have insomnia but its difficult to fall asleep, how can avoid the initial time at bed without turning around ? Thanks
