Default Klonopin And Xanax...Help would be nice

Hello All,

i have had severe panic disorder and social phobia...and and have been on Lexapro 10mg 1x a day and Klonopin 1mg 2x a day for the past 2 months now.....and recently i have had to been hospitalized 3 times for panic attacks and have just felt extreme anxiety all the time...so last week I went to the doctor and she added Xanax 1mg as needed for when i have attacks and to call here within the next week to see if im still having symptoms and maybe adjust the meds more......now in no way do i abuse these medications nor am i a drug user...

i guess the question i am asking is should i just be on one fast-acting Benzo or wat? ANY advice would be greatfully appriciated.

with love,
Fletcher

Wink Had the same combo

I would say the reason your Doctor did this is because Klonopin is a long acting benzo and Xanax has a much shorter half life. Possibly until you stabilize the dose of Klonopin in your body you may need the Xanax to address panic attacks that come on so quickly. I was on the same combo for years. A high dose of Klonopin one time daily and three small doses of Xanax throughout the day as needed for anxiety. Although they are in the same class of medications they do act differently in the brain and do have different intensity levels when it comes to addressing anxiety. Klonopin is slower to act but longer to last, while Xanax is the exact opposite, but they back eachother up quite nicely. I would suggest you stay on both, but that is your personal choice. They make a great team when combating anxiety, and the Lexapro is another good choice in my opinion.

Hellow,
As someone also with severe social phobia/anxiety I can say that i absolutely relate! I've tried many meds in my battle but klonopin definately put that extra *OOMPH into the meds. I didn't much care for xanax, I take Klonopin 1mg 3x a day. Either two in the morning 1 in evening or vise versa... depending on what kind of day it feels like. It really helps regulate anxiety throughout the day instead of taking a pill at the moment of anxiety hoping for it to work a miracle.
As far as Lexapro goes, I did try that for a good 6 months long ago and it did nothing for me but make me a little sleepy during the day. But drugs are strange, for some people they do wonderful things, for others they do horrible things. It's about finding that perfect mix... I'd say definately give the klonopin a chance it's been a lifesaver for me, literally.

fletcherwitch may I pls ask you a question , are you taking suboxone with xanax and klonopine ?? I only ask because I am new and still havent started my suboxone treatment which is why I am here doing research .. but if I could take xanax and klonopin while on suboxone that would really help things along , and would hopefully be something my doctor will agree with as well. thank you very much

JVICTOR .... It's recommended that you DON'T take xanax or klonopin with suboxone. There is a potential for adverse interaction resulting in respiratory depression. I don't care how well anyone says they do while mixing these meds it's not recommended. You DON'T need xanax or klonopin with the suboxone if you'll do as I ask. God bless.

Don't do it! I replied on your thread about that. I've got to see how you're really feeling to know when to induct you. Check the other thread.
