For those of you who have used Kadian for chronic pain, can you tell me how well it worked? If anyone can suggest an extended-release pain medicine that works, I would appreciate it. I'm currently taking vicoprofen, but experience breakthrough back pain before its time for my next dose. My doctor suggested Kadian and I want to find out more information on it before agreeing to take it. TIA for any assistance you can offer!

I have taken MS Contin for years and it has worked very well for me. I recently looked into taking Kadian becuase the manufactor will provide it for free or reduced cost within guideline. (I lost my health insurance.) When I asked my Dr. about it he was a bit hesitant. He said he is concerned that the pain will return before the next dosage time. I would take the Kadian 1x or 2x a day. I take MS Contin 3x a day. With the MS Contin when I have needed breakthrough pain I have taken roxanol. It works very well for me too.
What concerns me is I heard that Kaidan is a horse tranquilizer. Does anyone know anything about this? Please post what you have heard/know or e-mail me. thank you!

Kadian is just another sustained release morphine it is not a tranquilizer.The manufacture claims that they way the morphine is delivered with kadian requires that it only be taken twice a day instead of 3-4 times a day with ms contin......Dave

Kadian has changed my life. 40mgs of Kadian a day control my pain, keep it around a 3 or so, all day, instead of having to take 120+mg of MSIR. It doesnt handle the horrible pain that just starts, but if you are looking for a maint. type medciation, Kadian is great.
