    Default Flexeril for fibromyalgia?

Has anyone taken flexiril for fibro pain? (or for any other reason)? What side effects have you experienced and was it effective in relieving muscle pain esp. the kind caused by fibro? Thanks

    Hi Melinda-
Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't tried flexeril yet but am thinking of giving it a shot. I was finally given the diagnosis of fibro by a rheumatologist a few days ago. I had pretty much figured it out on my own due to my symptoms and the lack of anything definitive showing up in the multiple blood tests I have had done. I am 58 years old now and really started having severe muscle/tendon pain about 8 months ago. I have tried accupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy and massage therapy which have all helped a little but at times the pain is so severe that the only thing that has helped is norco or percocet which I obviously don't want to use unless I absolutely have to. I probably take percocet at night so that I can sleep due to pain 2 or 3 times a week. I do not in any way feel addicted but I would like to take something less narcotic, if possible. My MD suggested flexeril and then if it doesn't work lyrica. I have tried neurontin in the past which I didn't like at all. I felt weird on it and I also tried effexor......talk about insomnia... I couldn't sleep at all while on effexor. I finally weaned off of the effexor with Robert's help. (He also helped me wean off of ativan last summer, bless him!). In fact come to think of it the fibro symptoms really got severe when I stopped the ativan. Possible connection? Anyway, exercise and hot baths are the only two things that really seem to help me to any great degree and when the pain is really bad... I can't exercise. Sorry to ramble but any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi frantic mom
I go to a fibro specialist and I was talking to all the girls there and some of them said that the Flexeril helps them, so I would give it a try...
I'm not a big fan of lyrica or neurtin, but that is just me, It must be helping someone or I think they would be out of business.LOL

I think the reason your fibro got worse when you stopped the ativin is because it helped the mussels relax, the same thing happened to me when I stopped the klonopin. but that stuff had to go...

There is a special diet for fibro people, Have you heard of it.
I kind of made my own up with the help of the book..
I just wont eat flour or sugar and that really helps me.
(but they make sugar free candy)LOL

I do exercise I would die without that,,,But if you cant even getting down on the floor and stretching would help...

Hope you have a great day today, Melinda

Flexeril is one drug I have never abused.I obviously don't take anything anymore but...Flex actually worked for me.It relaxed the muscles in my lower back and inflamation would go down.It made me very, very sleepy though.I would take it when I had no other options because of severe pain. After a couple of days I would stop taking it.It worked for me.Good luck.

MUSICMAN: Thanks for the info. I have decided I will try flexeril maybe at a low dose since about the only thing I have heard about it is that it makes you sleepy. At night though sleep would be great...something I havent experienced in a long time. Glad to know that it helped with the pain and wasn't super addictive. I'll let you know how it goes.

MELINDA; Thanks for letting me know that it has worked for fibro pain. Do thye just take it at night. Actually, even if that is the case, I would be interested as that is when my pain seems to be the worst..... also I do feel better during the day if I have had a good night's sleep the night before. Definitely worth a try. I agree that I do NOT want to go back on ativan. It was definitely addictive!!! The anxiety I felt coming off of it was hell! I thought that the pain I was experiencing was from withdrawal and would go away but the fibro type pain has actually worsened (or come to the surface)since being off of ativan so I willl give flexeril a try esp, after what musicman said. I am not much of a sweets eater so I could probably avoid refined sugar pretty easily but how do you avoid flour? Does that mean you are gluten free? No breads at all? I would give up any foods if it will help with the pain!!! Does no sugar include fuits? Thanks for your help. I'll try to get flexeril on Monday and will try to make the diet changes. One more question..... have any of the women at the fibro clinic had breast implants? I had breast cancer in 2007 and have a saline implant. EVERY doctor I have gone to tells me that the implant can not be a cause of any body pains but I am getting desperate for an answer and would be willing in a minute to have the thing removed to stop the pain but don't want unnecessary surgery either.

    Hi frantic mom
To answer your question...Yes they take them before bed. My friend linda says she only takes it when she has a flair up and by the next day she is ready to go...
I think it may depend on how bad your fibro is.

OK, as far as my diet goes...LOL
I will only eat meat and vegtables...
But in the fibro diet you can eat fruit and brown rice.
I know people would say my diet is not healthy, But it's healthy for me...
If I have to have bread (Maybe 2 times a year) I order off of the internet, you can find stuff on low carb sites with no flour...

I never had implants, LOL,I could use some sorry just having some fun...
I will ask at the fibro doc and find out what is said on that issue...
My theory is stress is a big factor in fibro.
When I'm stressed everything hurts more...

If I can help with anything please feel free to ask
Hope you have a great day
    Talk to you soon, Melinda

Frantic,I hope flexeril works out for you.I want to make a clarification though.Flexeril is addictive. It just was not my cup of tea.I think it will help you.Just be careful with it.If you start counting on it for sleep over a period of time.....well..you know what happens...Good luck..MM

Just curious if you got any sleep last night. It will take a couple of days for the flex to build up in your system to start helping your muscles to relax and relieve the pain.Good luck!

Hi! Before taking flexeril, tell your doctor if you have: glaucoma, an overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, difficulty urinating or any allergies. Just to be sure that the meds will work well for you. If it's fine for your system, check out pharmacy overnight. I believe they have a good deal for flexeril there. Be safe!

Flexeril may be prescribed to you by your doctor for your fibromyalgia stiffness. Flexeril is a relaxant for muscles. It's used to treat muscle spasms.
Some says it's good but some says it doesn't affect.

It helps to get you sleep. The thing that use to bother you the most was at night shoulders and hips ached like a tooth ache and would get a lot of spasms all over your body. Flexeril has taken that away so you can be a lot more comfortable at night and do get some sleep.

It has a good and a bad effects.
