Default Five Days to Rehab and scared HELP

Hey everyone. Im just about to enter Rehab for Addiction to prescription Painkillers. I have been Addicted to Dihadracodine and diazepam for the past year, i cold turkeyd from Cocodamol and Diazepam two years ago and was sucsessful for almost a Year but became hooked again so this time Rehab is my only option.

I went for my assesment on Weds this week, go in next Thurs Morning and i am terrified. Because these Painkillers are Opiate based, Methadone is the detox of choice here which i didnt find out untill i went for the Assesment. What i dont understand is why they have to put me on a class A Drug to Detox from a class B Drug????? can anyone help with this? I would be gratefull for any advice.

Ive been following Bellabarbras story with great intrest on here and im really impressed with the help and advice that Robert has been giving. First of all WELL DONE Robert on your Recovery!! and all the very best of luck to Bellabarb, you can do this!! One day at a time. mwah!

Hi Kaybee,
I have been on pain med and Benzo's most my life...I have stopped benzo's before but ended back on them along with pain meds ...when I went into rehab about 1 1/2 years ago i was on morph, benzo's and several other drugs...I was there for less than a week start to have w/d symtom such as the worst diarrhea ever I had to ague with the nurse just to give me Bepto which I drank the whole bottle, they had me going to all the meetings from 7am-9pm and i had to say I was a drug addict and alcholic (which I hardle ever drink not great for myself esteem).Well I left after one week and 6000.00dollars later I got home had the sweats, chills etc basiclly in w/d but see they detoxed me for 4 days but never told me that I would still have w/d symtoms....well when i got home I refused to go back i wasn't going to pay to sit on the toliet 24/7 ...this was a hospital facility and I didn't even get to see the doctor for an evaluation till I called back and told them I would not be returning...
I'm not trying to scare you from going but after I got home i went back on the pain meds only Norco this time around and the Benzo's...I later went on Subs and I don't care to take a pain pill again I have gone thru to much.
There is the Thomas Recipe which a lot of people use for detoxing here...you just have to set your mind and just do it the rest is up to you ....when you have had enough pill popping and make up your mind then you will be ok....it will always be a fight no matter what method you use....there is no mircale cure for drug addiction....it is a daily battle.
Hope this helps!!!!
Good Luck...
Pam

I honestly can't believe drs who put someone on methadone who has been taking pain pills. That's like blowing away a fly with a shotgun. It's a total overkill. No way I would ever tell you to follow through with that type of treatment for painkillers.

Is suboxone not an option? Methadone should be a last resort. It's for LONGTERM treatment, not treatment from painkillers. I would rethink this. I'm VERY serious. God bless.

Thanks to you both for your replies, i asked my Mum to speak to the Chemist where i get my Scripts and he said the only detox option from dihydracodine is Mehthadone cos theyr both Opiates!! im scared incase i like the Methadone and theres another addiction right there!

With reference to the Subuxone, im from the UK and i dont think we have that Drug available here yet? Im speaking with my Drug Counceller Tomorrow and il ask if they can do a Valium detox if not then i think il refuse the Methadone and Cold Turkey again.

Pam, the Rehab im going into is very Community based, Myself and my peers have the responsability of the Day to Day running of the House. We will have One Group Meeting a day and One to Ones Twice weekly with a Trained Counceller if any other specific Councelling is needed ie Berevement ect then they have an outside Person come in. They dont force you to go to AA or NA meetings they say its your Choice. We get Math, English and IT lessons every Day and work toward a National Qualification which is brill. Its a Challenge and ive now stopped paniking (i think ) Well done Pam for how far youve came as i know how hard it is as id done it once before with the Pain killers but slipped back again KEEP STRONG!!!

Robert here we use Methadone for Herion Addicts withdrawing and i very nearly fell off my Chair at the assesment when it came out his Mouth!! they say their starting me on 30 ml and will reduce this over a period of 21 Days(Do you think this is a high dose in comparison to 10 to 15 dihydraconine 30mg a Day?) will also be gettig Valium for the first week and my antideppresant mitazipine at Night. If im honest im in two minds about the Methadone firstly because of the stigma attatched to it and i dont need a new "Friend" to become hooked on. Its a 6 Month Programme and i intend to see it out, ive too much too lose if i dont. What do you think now Robert given the extra information?? GB

take Care K Mwah!

Sounds like you know how to get clean. You need some help staying clean and I don't think methadone is the best option for that. That's just me and it doesn't mean I'm right. But no way I would advise taking methadone and surely not that much over a pain pill habit. Here is the Thomas Recipe link. It should help you a lot. God bless.

Default Rehab

Robert:

I think someone stated below... you HAVE to be ready to quit in order for any treatment to work. If they say methadone is the best way... then you have to view it as a necessary POISON. Just set your mind straight before you take the first dose. If YOU are not going to rehab to get clean by choice, then I would just stick to your op's, rather than adding a drug to your addiction. I went to rehab to kick a nasty cocaine habit and relapsed twice. The last time I got clean was because I wanted to, not because I was influenced or coerced. I now have 9 months. You can map your program however it works for you.... but don't waste your time or money if you aren't serious.

Hey Michelle

Thanks for your message! like you were im also prone to Cocaine extacy and alchahol binges, some lasting between 2 - 5 days this is another reason for rehab and i am ready for it, just frightend because im going into the unknown. For 15 years on and off ive been on some kinda upper or downwer and being in my v. early thirtys i feel ready to walk away from that scene and begin my life of abstinence.

My Famlly and i are shocked that Methadone is the Detox from Painkillers as ive not touched Herion but its all from the same family (opiates) so the more i think about it, it kinda makes sence now. If there is any other way round it ie vallium i will take that route and the methadone will only be a last resort. I will see a doc when i go in on Thursday Morning anyway and tell him my concerns.

Michelle, your spot on, you can only do it when you 100% are ready to. I have lost a lot through having an Addictive Personallity not just Material things but also my self respect and i feel i have hit rock bottom, but its not too late to get it back, i have one thing left and thats my fighting spirit and thats what will bring me back again.

Well done on your Nine months! you didnt say how you got clean, did you do it on your own or go back in to treatment?

gb and tc K xxxx
