Default Fentanyl - PLEASE HELP ME GET OFF IT!!!

Can I please get somebody's opinion on how to get off of the Fentanyl Duragesic 25mg Transdermal Patch with as few side effects as possible? I am on this medication due to chronic pain in the lower portion of my body which I have because I have Friedreich's Ataxia. I would really like some kind of help. I want to be free of this medication.

Liz

I am in a wheelchair but I am NOT stupid!!

Hi Liz,could you give more detail please. If your suffering with chronic pain then what is your plan for after you get off the patch????I assume your still going to have a chronic pain problem.I'm on methadone for my chronic pain/addiction after 22 years of being on every narcotic pain killer you can think off.We are both from Canada so we both know the laws and so forth for pain killers so that's a bonus.Again, if you can explain why you want to get off the patch and what do you plan to do after that.......Dave

Yes, Dave has a definite point. You are not going to find many drugs for home use that are as strong as this.

What problems are you having with it, and why do you want off of it so desperately?

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~

This is for Dave and other. I just want to deal with the pain on my own terms. I don't want to be on any other kind of drug. I want to get off any more them....period. I am absolutely sure that I can handle the amount of chronic pain I have when I get over the withdrawal symtoms. It is the withdrawal part that scares me. Because, I tried to come off it before on my own. But, it hurt too much. I need help on how to do it without so much pain.

Just a girl-
I want to tell you that I respect that you want off. I'm trying to tell you ask your doctor who prescribes this to you to help you! You can read some of the other forums and everywhere you go everyone says withdrawl sucks. I'm at 7 days clean and honestly I am not back to myself yet! Having him help you might make it alot easier for you! I don't want you with cronic pain already to have to experience what I went thru this last week! Keep in touch and let us know how its going!

June

Ok Just: Go to your doctor and see if you can get clonidine(sp) also load up on imudium and advil gel caps. You might want to get a small prescription for a benzo like valium. The imodium is a narcotic but it doesn't cross the brain/blood barrier but it does help0 ease the withdrawl pains.Drink as much water as you can and try and eat healthy foods.Gatoraide is exellent to drink because of the electrolytes in it.Good luck and let us know how your doing......Dave
