Default FENTANYL Patches -new kind??

I refilled my Fentanyl Transdermal Patch prescription the other day and was given a different generic. I use the 75mcg. This time the patches are larger and they have a silver foil as the sticky side.

Has anyone gotten these and if so, what do you think? I haven't had much luck in keeping them on.....the sticky side is kind of like a rubber glue?

Opinions? I'm not fond of these at all....

if you're having trouble keeping them on run over to the drug store and pick up some of that waterproof tape that's meant for holding bandages and stuff on your skin (in the first aid section of the store by the band-aids). hope this helps.

Question FENTANYL Patches

The best thing to hold them on is Tagaderm. It is what Hospitals use to hold down an IV line, and to keep it dry. More expensive tho, but works terrific! That's what I am having to use now.

What I was asking about though, is if anyone else gets this kind and give me their opinion on them. Personally, I don't think they work very well at all compared to the Name Brand (Duragesic) and the other Generic I have had.

Thank you for replying to my post!

Honestly I can not locate the generic company on these things.......if anyone uses them, though; they will know what I mean when I say the sticky side resembles tin foil.......................

Talking Finally---The Answer!

Currently I use 100mg patch and not only are they difficult to keep on, but they itch a lot. So, here's the BEST I have found to keep them on in the shower...they are made by 3M and they are called Tegaderm + Pad. THE BEST! Let me know how it works for you.

Default Sorry...New To This, But I Have Another Answer For You

I have both 100mg and 75mg patches and haven't noticed a difference in anything at all. I thouught I saw something about the L4-L5, but I can't find it now. If that's you, I have a question...please get in touch.

Thanks....

Default To Labordoodle

Yep, I have been buying and using Tagaderm, which keeps them in place just fine.....However, I SWEAR these things are not as strong....they only last about 50ish hours for me instead of the 72 hours that they are supposed to last.....What is your opinion???

Please, please be very careful about what type of "tape" you use to keep Fentanyl patches on. Never tape over the entire patch. The patch has peforated "air holes" and it is very important that these are not sealed off, if these holes are sealed off, the medication can be dispensed incorrectly resulting in overdose or not being effective.

Please talk to the pharmacist before buying any product to keep the patches in place. In my opinion, Fentanyl patches are dangerous. I personally know of two patients who died while using Fentanyl patches and nothing else. The medical examiner determined that the patches were "faulty" distributing more medication than they were supposed to resulting in respiratory failure during sleep. Also, getting overheated can cause the medication in the patches to distribute too fast, causing overdose.

Medications in pill-form are much more reliable. You KNOW exactly how much medication is being distributed. I don't understand why anyone would risk using opiates transdermally.

I only posted this because I get very worried when someone is using them. Please be careful.

Best Wishes,

mags

Thanks, Magjay

I was not aware of any air holes.....maybe that accounts for it not seeming to work.

Debpurpletiger .... wanted to make sure you saw the reply to your post on another thread. Please DO NOT tell people on this forum to take 12-16mg of suboxone when doing an induction. That's way too much and just had to be sure you saw the reply in the thread "I guess this is it......" when you were talking to Bailey46. We don't do that here. We do inductions at between 2-6mg and that is it. Know you were trying to help but we have to give the correct information to people. God bless.

Robert,

Oh my Gosh! Can you post a link to where I said that?? I KNOW the induction starts out low as I have been on it before and I was started at 2mg and moved up to 4mg daily which worked wonderfully.

If I was the one that posted that, please show me where so I can delete that - you are completely correct - if I said that, I have no idea why I would.....

Deb .... I will include a link for you to take you back to that statement. Don't freak out about it. It's been corrected, but you may want to go back and comment that you made that suggestion in error or while in a rush or whatever. Here is the link. We all make a mistake occasionally.

I pulled up the thread, just follow down to post #15 where you commented. It's too late to delete it but you can make a retraction of your statement there if you would like. Hope that helps. God bless.
