okay, i had to test because i just wrote a LENGTHY reply, and there was an error w/ my login, so i had to go back and do over. i wish i had seen the login at the top instead of putting my user ID above here in the reply window!! forum admins, you may want to take note of that.

anyway, i've been taking Elavil for inisomnia. before that, i was prescribed Trazodone, but i thought i experienced side effects of my calves feeling "tight" as if they were cramping, and i had back discomfort when i woke.

now, i've been switched to Elavil. i've been on it for nearly 2 weeks. it definitely works better for me than Trazodone. I am permitted by my doctor to take 25mg, and increase by 25mg as i need to fall asleep.
today, when i woke up, i noticed what i think might be a side effect. my feet are swollen. i know that probably sounds strange, but i think they are. my neck and head feel strange too-- as if i have just got done running-- not necessarily a pounding heart beat, but a tightness, as if my blood pressure might be raised? to me, it reminds me of food allergy symptoms, but i can't think of anything i might have eaten to make me feel this way, and furthermore, i have no known bad food allergies-- although some foods have made me feel a little strange like this-- mostly fruits, but i haven't had any lately.

are any of these symptoms connected w/ adverse reactions to Elavil?

Hi,

Elavil is now being used for pain and sleep. I take it for clinical depression. I have been on it since 1976, but I take if for an antidepressant. They have tried me on the newer ones but none of them work. I take 200mg at bed time.

For pain I am on the duragesic patch. Both seem to work well together.

Good Luck,
ST

I have been taking Elavil for years and years. At the time I was having severe panic attacks. Now I take 100 milligrams at bedtime to help me sleep. I have Osteoarthritis but it doesn't help the pain. I've never had any problems with it so guess I'll be on it for the rest of my life.
