Default Effexor question?

I saw my new physciatrist yesterday and he informed me the Effexor is used for depression and Anxiety. I didn't know it was used for anxiety too. My question is, that he told me that Effexor takes about 2 months before you get it's full effect. Has anyone else heard this before? Please let me know ASAP. Thank You. KT

I have heard that effexor is bad, the side affects are brutal. I am no dr etc. but I have friends that have taken it and they end up taking high dosses and cant get off of them. They have gotten brain spassims and other stuff. I have never taken them and my b/f was givin them but after reading up on them refused to take it. so first hand I am not sure anything but what i have been told. I have also read on here ppl having a really tuff time getting off of them.

I would research it and most importantly, unlike i did, monitor yourself VERY carefully and report all side effects.

Both my sisters and mother wre on this. They eneded up on very high doses. My sister was up to 300mgs a day.
When she came off of this drug, she was someone I have never known, and do not want to know again. Try NOT to go on this drug!!!!! Sometimes alot of conditions can be helped through better nutrition. I am not a DR, but if you read up on this you will have a better Idea about what to do and what you could possibly be getting yourself into. Good Luck,

Default Effexor XR

As you know from my previous post regarding Effexor XR, I had some anxiety problems. My doctor REFUSES to give me any benzos ("he says their are too addicting") So they increased my dose from 150mg to 185.5mg. She says "Let's see how you feel from this and we will take it from there. I do not sleep and she offered me Trazadone. I tried it and it did nothing for me.

Kevin:

I wrote to you about the dry eyes in another forum. You have got to find other ways to deal with your anxiety. These drugs do not work in fact they eventually make it worse. You can't sleep because of the drug. It keeps you in a weird dream state, so you have vivid dreams and you dont wake up rested. My advise is to wean off of it and use natural remedies.

Read this book:

"The Mood Cure" by Julia Ross (It works)

Take melatonin and 5-htp for sleeping ( dont take 5-htp until you are fully off of the effexor for aboutr 4 months, it can cause serotonin syndrome)

On effexor for 2.5 months. quit cold turkey 6 months ago--still feeling abnormal

ive been on effexor since june of 2004.... 37.5 and upped it over the years...im at 150 mgs now, and thats only been a year on 150 but its enough for me.
at first, after a few weeks, it worked and then after that it stopped. i tried to get off it, hell my body wakes up the next morning with withdrawls from the medication, thats how bad my body is used to it.... i hate the pill, it doesnt do anything for me, i wanna switch, im in the process with the help of 2 physicians to get off it and onto somethign else, it doesnt work for me, and im mad that i was kept on it for so long, because the side effects, just after 1 month of 37.5 mgs a day left me for 3 days in a near psychotic state..... i cant imagine now, theres obviously a way to decrease it under a doctors care, but i wouldnt recommend anyone effexor, it was good for a little while and i mean a few weeks and after that, gone..... just a stupid pill i had to take so i wouldnt feel hungover like i drank 24 beers the night before.
if this scares anyone, im only being honest, i hate that pill. i cant wait till im off it for good.
