Default cymbalta

hey folks,

can someone tell me if they were on this drug and if i did them any good, my sister was precribed it but she has always been aware of drugs and never realy took anything before,
but recently she has become very depressed and she is in pain alot of the time , kinda 24/7.
she had cancer 6 years ago and had to have a kidney removed , but THANK GOD SHE GOT THE ALL CLEAR.
she received 54 staple stiches across her tummy, now they tell her that she has to have her gall bladder removed as there maybe cells, she thought she would have keyhole surgery but the surgeon now says that because of her previous operation, thats impossible due to some knots in her tummy after the stiches..
so she has got very depressed because of the fact that they have told her that they will have to open her old wound, 54 stiches again, so her doc has given her CYMBALTA and she wont take them, i have heard they were also a pain reliever as well as a anti depressent, i told her id look up the net but its better if some one who has been on them could tell me about them..
thank you, hope some1 can offer some info..

mike.

A friend of mine who is very much in pain all the time is taking that now, it helps her alot, but not completely. Some is better than nothing, especially if one needs to actually get off the couch and move. Takes a while to go into effect like any other antidepressant. Should have positive effects for her. Good luck.

Wow...I'm really suprised there is not much talk about this drug. First of all I am sorry to hear about your sister. Cancer is a hard thing for everyone.

I started CYMBALTA five days ago and noticed a difference right away. I was on Paxil for quite some time and gained a lot of weight from it. I felt like I couldn't get full and was craving stuff all the time. Thank God that I got off Paxil....Baw!! Yuck. So, I am on the lowest amount of milligrams for Cymbalta- 20mg. I noticed a tiny little bit of nausea at first and some small hot flashes but that was it for any negative side effects. I have lost a lot of my appetite now, which is good and my pants are lose, so maybe I'll lose some of that Paxil weight. Grrrr. As for your sister, it may be best to start off at the lowest amount of milligrams and if that doesn't do any good, she can always go up to 60mg's I think. But I have heard it would cause more nausea.

Cymbalta hits two neurotransmitters and it is supposed to be a first in its class drug. Supposedly the major neurotransmitters in depression are serotonin and norepinephrine. So, instead of an SSRI, I think this is called an SSNI...or something like that. Anyways, Cymbalta is good for major depression (I think) and is also approved for painful side effects that go along with depression. I have had neck and upper back (muscle pain) for a long time and this Cymbalta really seems to help it. I can't feel much pain at all actually...probably because it is stress related. But it helps the stress too, I can sleep better. I feel normal and can focus much more, and I've only been on it for five days. I think given your sister's condition and her painful symptons, this might be a great choice. But I can't speak for her because like I said everyone's chemistry is different. I've just started reading up about Cymbalta, so I'm not that knowledgable about it. But,so far it has been working for me, and I'll keep people posted.

Cheers!
