Default advice about wellbutrin please...

hi! I take lexepro for depression and anxiety and I am an opiate addict.lexepro has made me gain 24 lbs! I didnt realize weight gain was such a big side effect.So my dr. gave me wellbutrin to switch too.I asked for this cause i heard you dont gain weight on wellbutrin.but will it help just as much as the lexepro with my depression? i take 20milg lex a day

There's really no way to know til you try it. Lexapro works on serotonin in the brain, while Wellbutrin works on dopamine. It would make sense that anything that acts on dopamine would be helpful for people like us, but Wellbutrin's effect on dopamine is nowhere near as strong as vicodin, for instance. Which is just as well, since you're not trying to get high, simply to get relief from depression. I think all you can do is give it a try.

At one point my doctor added Wellbutrin to the SSRI I was taking, and it did help my mood a lot. In my experience, it's a good drug.
