i just wanted to say id been clean of pain killers. it was hard for the first couple of days especially monday that was the worst withdrawal ever. but now its been 5 days and im detemined to detox myself. i drink water all day to help flush out the hydro..i am gonna beat this i manged to quit smokin for 6 months that was hard also cuz id been smokin for 19 years.also id been clean of cocaine for 2 years now and felt so much better after getting off coke and ciggies. I know getting off pain meds are HELL every joint in my body aches but the water does help and getting plenty of rest thats the way to go if your detoxing at home or cold turkey like me i wish you all best wishes who are trying to get clean. keep a postive attitude and i garentee you will make it Hang in there everybody withdrawal doesnt last for ever. Everyone is diffent but i just wanted to share my help on how to get off of vicodin.

YEAH! Way to go, I am so happy for you, you are doing great.

Remember, you can use some Advil or Tylenol to help with those general aches and pains, and if you have nausea, Benadryl or its generic equivelent will help with that.

If you aren't fond of Gatorade, I know some of their flavors taste like you are drinking sweat, you can use Propel or PowerAde to help, does the same thing as Gatorade, but they taste better. There also some new drinks out from Sobe called Life Waters that are very palatable and refreshing.

Just a quick update id been clean since april 17th and i feel great! it seems that the pain i was expeiencing when i was on pain meds was a lot worse then off them. i dont have to go to pain management. I take tylonel and use mineral ice for pain now plus i have been losing weight which also helps. There is hope for those that are going through withdrawl. Just remeber it dosent last forever. and once it is out of your system things while start to fall into place and you will feel better. Believe me i went through hell the first 3 days but i drank so much water that i though my bladder was gonna explode and flushed it out. i slept though the rest of the week then it was finally over. I will never go back to narcotics again cuz the withdrawl is horrible. Best of luck to all! this forum was a life saver!

Wow, you are my hero. I mean it, same for anyone who has done it, good going.

I tried several times to get off morphine. Didn't manage to do it.

One thing is the gut pains in withdrawals - you mentioned the joint aches, which I know about, but for me the gut cramps and the "scratching and clawing going on in my guts" for all those days was really the worst of it for me.
I am sure you had it too, but were the other pains the worst for you?

Anyways, keep going, it sounds like you have your mind made up to not go back, I really hope you do not go back.

You have a life now, stay with this path, it helps the rest of us to see you courage and your success. Keep posting your story!!

Hi everyone!

Thank you for the nice complament I really apprecate it. Thank you all for your replies I couldnt of done it with out all of you.

Well its been a whole month now that ive been clean of pain meds. Yesterday I have to say was a bit tough though when I went to see the doc but i was stronge and said no thank you, I just couldnt handle going back now. Believe me it was tempting. For all of those going through withdrawl right now you are all in my thoughts and you will make it. Once your off of pain meds you'll feel so much better.I know i did i feel like a brick wall fell off my shoulders.

There is hope. I truly believe that once the physical withdrawl is over the mental part shortly follows. and you will feel free.

I know i'll always been an addict ex smoker and thats ok.
(thats just what i call myself).

Remeber it doesnt last for ever this is an awesome site I really got and still getting alot of support and just knowing there are others going through the same thing its always good to know that I wasnt alone. I'll be always ready to help anyone who is going through a tough time.

Best of luck too all there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Luv N Hugs,

Morticia you can't help things like that, they happen.Make sure you use them as prescribed and when the pain is gone throw them out.If you use them properly then your less likely to have a problem. Are you abusing them now?????If you are then either throw them out or finish them as quick as you can and get back to living life again.Let me know whats happening,ok.....Dave

P.S. Don't dwell on screwing up because stress make pain worse. You didn't screw up anyway, you had an accident, you can't control that.Don't be so hard on yourself. You know your strong enough to not let these pills get the best of you.Have some confidence in yourself.....Dave

hi all
i just want to say that im doing the best that i can.

im going to pain management on tuesday for a consultation.
my MRI said i have a pulled mucle and that the cartilage is worn down under the knee cap and theres nothing i can do but to be on anti imflamatories and vicodin ES.

I just cant seem to have the strength to get off i have excusating pain in my back fromm a hernated disc maybe the pain management will help, my doc warned me about oxycotin and MS contin he doesnt want me to get hooked even though i am addicted to opiates. I just dont have the heart to tell him that i am addicted to the vicodin.

its all i ever think about is my next pill. i got a script for 36 yesterday and im already half way through the bottle.

any suggestions? is there hope?

I guess its up to me to tell him that im addicted and that to tell him that i dont want pills but i just cant.

i guess i hold the reins here and i have to decide on my own.

If there is any suggestions on what to do when i go into pain mangaemant let me know.
any help is appraicted.

luv n hugs

Hey there girl. I have read all of your threads and have to say that you are a very strong minded person and that you have alot of willpower to have to have gotten off of the meds that you were on. I started with the painkillers about 2 years ago for one month straight I was going to both of the hospitals in KS the state where I was at before (In IL now) For one month straight I was going in and out of both of the hospitals until I was going every other day into the hospital and an er Doc finally caught on and told me that over 17 visits to the Er rooms of both hospitals was completly unacceptable. He cut me off. I finally stopped and that was only after taking them for one month. I went through serious withdrawal after only one month at that time I had also found out that I was pregnant with my son who is now almost 8 months. I got through the withdrawal but then at about 7months during my pregnancy I got a really bad infection in my back teeth and then was prescribed lortab 5/500 QTY 30 so there we go again so I was on pain meds from about March 06 and currently still on them. I moved back to IL about 1 month ago and stopped cold turkey on the Ultram and then went into medical detox for two days but for two weeks I was so weak it seemed as though I could not shake the withdrawal for nothing so once again I went to my Dr. and he once again prescribed me Ultram 50 mg QTY 120 w/3 refills. Here I go again it's like a roller coaster. I recieved the injury to my lower back when my husband beat me with a old wooden board that had old nails in it I have the scars on my back to prove it and since then my back has not been the same. Keep your head up and I really enjoyed talking to you. Keep your head up girl cause I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel and believe me I have been looking.

Hi Morticia: I'm on methadone for pain\addiction and for the last 4+ years I haven't taken anything else.I was addictively abusing demerol, oxycodone, morphine, dilaudid and fentanyl. Not all at the same time as morphine was my doc.I went fo 23 years abusing those opiates everyday.I was very fortunate in that I have never been in withdrawl and from what I know I don't ever want to.Methadone is an exellent pain killer and it also blocks other opiates .Meaning that if I took 1,000mgs of morphine I wouldn't even feel it ( I tried this a couple times when I first started so I know the blocking effect works). Also if you do have any withdrawls or cravings methadone will stop them.Methadone has a very long half life which is one reason why it's been so successful with addicts as they only have to dose once a day.Be very careful with methadone as it is extremely potent especially if you take any benzodiazepines like xanax or valium to name a few. When taken together they can cause respitory failure (ie: Anna Nicoles son).So no booze and no unprescribed benzo's, ssri's or any other cns depressant.I'm not saying you abuse any of these just giving you some info.I'm glad that it's working for you.Make sure you stay as active as possible when your on methadone as it can tend to make us lazy.Good luck......Dave
