Default Xanax or Lexapro

My doctor prescribed me Xanax for anxieties and mild depression, I have been taking .25/mg twice a day for about 5 days and feel a million times better. Now he prescribed me Lexapro because he said Xanax is very addictive. I took Lexapro this morning and felt like **** most of the day, nausea and short temper were the worst side effects I got along with feeling depressed. So I guess my question is, which drug is better for the long run, and which one would be easier to get off of?
How long long before you start feeling better on Lexapro as opposed to Xanax?

Anyone?

I would guess this is a combiation of 2 things. First, Lexapro should be taken with food otherwise it can be very tough on the stomach.

Second,I have found in myself and other that Xanax can be very mood altering so just stopping could cause the depression. That should go away in a couple of days.

If these things don't help, then Lexapro is the wrong medication for you - but this time if everything thing is still the same then you are reacting to Lexapro.

You were on a very low dose of xanax for a very short period of time, and it is unlikely that the switching caused what you're feeling. It can be very addicitve, and a person on higher doses does need to taper down, but this not the case for someone who is taking nearly the lowest dose possible for less than a week.

It is however, immediately reacting versus Lexapro than can take 6 weeks or so before you see the full effects. Lexapro, like most antidepressants, needs to build up in your system before you see noticeable effects.
