Default THE WONDER DRUG

i cant believe what they were thinking when they made this suboxone ....i have been on it now for almost 3 weeks and i do feel pretty good but i am worried about coming off the med and will i still feel ok?.i for the last twenty years of being addicted to painkillers wondered what it was going to be like to be normal again, but the problem is that i dont remember what being normal was like..i spent so much of my time wondering where my next pill was going to come from that i never thought of what my life would be like without them. wow now i know and i feel great but im thinking thats only because the sub is filling the space...im praying i can come off the sub somewhat easy and feel good then too. im going on a venture today to find a good N/A meeting so i have some support.
i dont think my husband understands me or this addiction at all....sigh he told me he would be there for me but he hasnt as i dont think he knows what to do or say so im hoping that he will come with me to a meeting or 2 and see what its all about and listen to how some people help deal with and support the person they love going through detox........wish me luck

thanks a bunch

Gettinolder,

Hi again...can you share with us the cost of the Dr. visits, medication etc. I know it will be different here but just and idea please....

Also how much suboxone did they start you on and what was your intake previously?

This sounds like the way to go for my ex who says he wants it. (We'll see) He has very little money.

Is Sub available on the street or are their programs that help those without good insurance. I don't want to pay for him this time. He needs to want it bad enough. The Dr. in Las Vegas I called wants $1500 up front for 6 weeks without medication costs. "Steve can't afford that.

Thoughts anyone? Please and thank you. LLM

HI LUVLIFEMORE,
Thanks for responding....i was on a ton a pain killers for many years and what i did was find yourself a pain clinic that does detox as well and ask them what it costs for the suboxone treament....im in florida and here its 100 a office visit and the suboxone is 8 dollars a pill. im on (2) 8mg a day one i take in the morning and then i break the other in half so to keep myself medicated more during the day....half in the afternoon and the last half before bed.
the only thing is im having a really hard time sleeping and i have those jolts that feel like electricity go through my body like a 100 times a day and its freaky....

on top of that im also withdrawling from lexapro, which i knew nothing about that there was a withdrawl from that and i was only on it for a few months...in that few months i also packed on serious weight like almost 40 lbs of water. im very depressed and dont know what to do as i thought i was doing the right thing and had hoped i was going to be ok but now i seem like i have worse issues than i did when i was just on the painkillers..........sigh

Hello,
I was on pain killers for the past 5 or 6 years. Perks to Oxys and then heroin...Suboxone has changed my life. It is the freedome we are all looking for. I am currently on 2-1/2 8mil pills a day and my insurance fully covers it. I see my doctor twice a month for refils and have yet to go to a NA or AA meetings. I have been on them since October 12th and I have not used drugs since then. It is truly the answer to becoming free from your addictions. My doctor said i could get off of them in 6 months and may need them for the rest of my life since i have the tennancy to go back to drugs due to abuse as a child. Some people just never get better and will always need something. Thank God there is finaly something that wont break the wallet and wont make u high but just make u feel normal. The Doctor jokes around and calls the four girls and I that meet twice a month his "mother's on Suboxone group", this means even if u have kids dont feel like you are going to be shuned or exposed or looked down upon. Your kids are the best reason to give the pain killers up...everyone knows what its like trying to get the kids to school and clean and cook when ur dope sick. It wont work...PLease if u are a user and u would like to better your life...skip the methadone and check out suboxone. Good luck to u and i do pray everyday for those addicted to pain killers. There is hope to live a normal life again after your addiction has lost its grip on you.

Ok, now that i have read further into this. I dont know about jolts...but i will be watching tv and then next thing i know im waking up 20 minutes later still sitting straight up on the couch...eyes get heavy and just shut and u have like almost no control over this. When i was taking Heroin i would get like that and i think that is why they give suboxone to heroin users...its just an affect that heroin addicts get and Oxy users dont. Maybe u are takin too much of the Suboxone....i notice that if i take just 1 and a half 8 miligram pills a day instead of the 2-1/2 i dont drift off into sleep.

gettinolder, look back in the lexapro withdrawal discussion board... I believe it's on page 105 where Shifty answered your question about those jolts. If that isn't enough info. ask again there. I know it has been discussed many times. I get them too, but not as bad as you are describing.

Hi Gettinolder and Yvonne-
Thanks for the info. Yvonne what are the costs of the visits & meds typically in your area? My ex has me doing his research- typical. I kicked it without Suboxone a year ago but I wasn't a heavy user for a long time like he is. He may be one of those that never gets off Sub. He has taken something as long as I known him. (10 yrs.)I know, I know... this is his stuff not my problem anymore but I sure would like to see Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde go away.

Anyone that has any info on typical dose of Suboxone and after what amount of Oxy or ? please post. I believe he is snorting at least 80mg per day for maintenance and binging whenever the mood strikes.
Thank you,
LLM

hey yall this is my first post but i might have some suggestions for you guys! I know that suboxone is still an opiate and u still get that chatty and uppity feeling for the first 4-6 hours! Try to take your last dose at 4-5pm! That way the peek intensity has passed and then you might have an easier time fallin out. I have experienced everything that u guys have spoken about and this is what works for me. I take 16mg a day one at 8am and one at between 4-5pm and sllep great during the night. The first week i had problems because i was kicking that monkey off my back but that passed and now i have a new outlook on life! Hope that this info can be useful and if you have any questions i will check this post often or email me at smitighe@yahoo.com. This drug saved my life and when you think of the expense of the drug, think of the expense of your life!

Decided to jump in with my $.02 here. Suboxone has also given me my life back. I have been on it since early November '05. For those not familiar with it, you can't just go to any doctor to get a prescription for it....they must have the SAMHSA waiver or prescribe it for pain. It is still considered an orphan drug, which means no off-label scripts. I say this because many have found Suboxone helps with depression. Many Sub patients are reporting their depression has improved or disappeared.

While still an opioid, you do not get high while taking Suboxone. The exception to this is during the induction phase. Some do report a euphoria at the onset. But this does go away. Protocol sets the maximum daily dose at 32 mg. For someone on Heroin or Oxy, it's not uncommon to see a dose in the 20 mg range to the max. Most hydro patients report to be on 16 mg. or less. The most important thing on this medication is to remember everyone is different and different doses apply to each one of us.

There are many, many challenges with Suboxone treatment. First, there is the 30 patient rule for each doctor. This can create a disappointing months long waiting list, especially in rural areas. Then you have the doctors that don't believe in maintenance and taper a patient too fast. Add to it, the views of support groups that view Suboxone as still using.

I have been quietly working with groups to resolve some of these issues and while doing so, have become very familiar with this treatment. If anyone has any questions on Buprenorphine (Suboxone)treatment, I would be more than happy to answer them. If I cannot answer them, I do have access to physicians that can....but this is never a substitute for getting your own advice from your own physician.

SAMHSA (and CSAT) is getting ready to release a three year study that examines this treatment. Early indications are this report is going to revolutionize the way addiction is treated. Rumors state a very high success rate....If true, this will only add to the current issues (waiting lists).

Email me anytime at dixiegirl419@hotmail.com

Be well,
Dixie

Hi Everyone,

Suboxone is wonderful, it makes you feel like a normal person again. I was taking about 20 vicodin a day, before going to suboxone 2mg a day. I found I was able to wean down fast off suboxone. with in two weeks I had gotten down to .5mg (that's a quarter of a pill) I got stuck there for about 5 months (I couldn't cut the pills any smaller)Suprisinly my dockton put me on liquid oxycodone. I guess .5 mg of sub is equal to about 20mg of morphine. So he started me on 18 mg a day of oxycodoe and tapered me down to 10mg a day(it took about a month) Well, I made the jump yesterday and today is my scond day opiet free, and I feel just fine. Sleeping was a little difficult last night. My doctor did give me a few valium to help, I'm not even sure if I will need any today. You guys can do this, wean down as soon as you can from the suboxone. Just remember one 2mg suboxone is like taking about 80 mgs of morphine. Weaning down the suboxone was so easy. Good luck and enlist help.

Gina

Things are starting to get a little worse, I'm coming up on 48 hours and the anxiety is kicking in, not to mention the goose bumps. My husband and I got rid of all the opiets in the house though, so there is no going back. I'm glad I did the taper though or else I wouldn't have made it this far. Any tips on sleeping. I'm using my valium but it's not working so well, my doctor only gave me a few. I'm starting to feel a littly down too. At lease I'm not sweating and vomiting. Thanks for the support Dave. I think If I can get through tomorrow I will be home free.[8D]

Peace to all of you

gina

I told you that you would start to feel better.Be careful though because now your in a danger zone. You feel good and you've gone without your drugs for 3-4 days.Don't talk yourself into thinking you can handle a couple pills because you will be right back into it.This happens all the time when people start to feel better,it's the addiction that get's you without you even knowing it.Anyway enough about that, your feeling good and that's great.Hang in there because you'll feel better and better.....Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for the warning, but not a chance. We flushed everything, and I mean everything. All my doctor's know of my situation so no chance getting anything from any of them. I no longer know people who use them either so it's not like I can call someone up and ask. I have set myself up for success. We want to start trying for a baby soon so there is no going back for me. I am definately in a weird place mentally though, I am still obsessing but I am tring to keep myself busy (you should see how clean my house is). I start my new full time job Monday so that is a blessing. I took a long walk today and that felt great. I had lunch with my mom, and am so looking forward to cooking a healthy meal for my husband and then watching American Idol. I feel happy, proud and weird at the same time.

Dave, Just a quick thanks for being so positive and helpful right from the beginning. It took 7 months but I finally did it and there is no going back. I do know this, If I do mess up I won't beat myself up over it. We are all human. For now thanks and I think I'm gonna sign off for a while.
