i have been on lexapro for 3 years for anxiety and thought recently that i no longer needed it. I weaned off of it from 10 to 5mg for 1 month then stopped. I had nausea, diarreah, sweats, etc. and realized it was withdrawal. So i went back to 5mg but then had palpitations so i went back to 10 and stabalized. More recently (a week ago) my psych wanted me to go back to 5mg so i did. 4 days later i am having weird dreams, bad thoughts about death, shaking, shivering, nausea, loss of apatite, and fear. He put me back up to 10mg 2 days ago.
MY QUESTION: how many days back on 10 mg will it take for these symptoms to go away?

If you don't mind me asking, why did you feel the need to stop your Lexapro treatment?

In response to your question, the withdrawal process should come to an end fairly shortly (two-four weeks) since you are returning to your previous dose, which your brain was accustomed to.

But to completely withdraw from Lexapro, or any SSRI, more caution should be taken when weaning off, no matter how small the dose may seem. In your case, I would not have just abruptly stopped taking the 5 mg, but instead reduce it to 2.5 mg for several weeks and then possibly stop treatment.

I have just started 10mg of Lexapro daily and i find it is helping with my anxiety attacks and my depression. the only side effect so far is a little weight gain. i don't know what the long term side effects will be. can i ask why you want to stop the drug? did it stop working??
