PoppyQueen,
Are you serious, one pill 35 years ago got you hooked? Wow!
I've taken narcotics periodically for about that long but they were always short-term trips following minor injuries or the dentist. My longest historical stretch was five days in 1998 after a raccoon bit my finger off.
It finally got me though. I've been using for 1½ years following an accident that crushed two thoracic vertebrae and fractured three more. Although my usage has steadily tapered since the crash and burn (from tons in the beginning-$4k dilaudid/first 10 hospital days) down through
fentanyl patches and
percocet through various strengths of
oxycontin and percocet to a current average of 3x10/325 percocets a day. Even at that low level, I know that kicking is going to be a very bad time. I initially verified the physical dependency 2 months after the accident. Now, 16 months later I'm not only alleviating the pain, I'm most definitely supporting the addiction.
I find all the discussion here fascinating, especially the
suboxone. Suboxone seems to be the free pass out. I'm way past ready but I still have the problem of dealing with a significant amount of pain remaining from the fractures. That's the last piece of the puzzle because the common stuff like
ibuprofen or
naproxen doesn't touch it. I'm not sure what's the best way to address pain mgmt after
oxycodone but hope to figure it out soon.
So anyway, I just wanted to jump in and say Hi and this seems as good a place as any. I'll be reading around here to learn more on detox and look for an alternative pain mgmt plan.
Best to you all,
DB
