Don't do it Smurf!!! It took just one to hook me. I've been addicted for 35 years and while I get over it for some periods of time, it keeps coming back to hook me again, and here I am, detoxing again. I honestly wish I had never taken one. I can say without hesitation that it has never ever added any value to my life. It has only gotten me high and cost me alot of money. No drug is fun when your every waking moment is consumed by it.

Don't be an idot. Go smoke a joint if you must get high.

Hi Diane, I appreciate your thoughts! I am doing amazingly well. I am going through an anti-depressant adjustment and that seems to be a bigger pain at the moment. I have been sleeping lots, no doubt due to these drugs: Suboxone and Cymbalta. Well 5 years to get to this point; it'll take time to get it right.

Hoping the best for your son in Florida,
PQ

PoppyQueen,

Are you serious, one pill 35 years ago got you hooked? Wow!

I've taken narcotics periodically for about that long but they were always short-term trips following minor injuries or the dentist. My longest historical stretch was five days in 1998 after a raccoon bit my finger off.

It finally got me though. I've been using for 1½ years following an accident that crushed two thoracic vertebrae and fractured three more. Although my usage has steadily tapered since the crash and burn (from tons in the beginning-$4k dilaudid/first 10 hospital days) down through fentanyl patches and percocet through various strengths of oxycontin and percocet to a current average of 3x10/325 percocets a day. Even at that low level, I know that kicking is going to be a very bad time. I initially verified the physical dependency 2 months after the accident. Now, 16 months later I'm not only alleviating the pain, I'm most definitely supporting the addiction.

I find all the discussion here fascinating, especially the suboxone. Suboxone seems to be the free pass out. I'm way past ready but I still have the problem of dealing with a significant amount of pain remaining from the fractures. That's the last piece of the puzzle because the common stuff like ibuprofen or naproxen doesn't touch it. I'm not sure what's the best way to address pain mgmt after oxycodone but hope to figure it out soon.

So anyway, I just wanted to jump in and say Hi and this seems as good a place as any. I'll be reading around here to learn more on detox and look for an alternative pain mgmt plan.

Best to you all,
DB

Hi Dobo! Yup, me and opiates hit it off from the start; it was love at first swallow. Many posts ago I wrote about my love affair with pain killers. There's been some years where I really didn't have many pills to speak of and I was busy with the white powder, anyway. Oh and then those drinking years--I've been busy!

But 5 years ago, I had a strange head injury and I suffered seriously painful headaches although they were not migraines. So after going through several types of pills to ease the pain, the doc finally wrote me a script of the good stuff (Vicoprofen). As my eyes lit up and I was probably salivating, I knew I shouldn't but, I did. I took my first pill in quite some time and I felt wonderful. It didn't really take away the pain, but I felt really darn good! So, that first year I used steadily except for maybe a couple weeks. But then I started steadily, so I have not missed day of pills in 4 straight years. Two weeks ago I started Subox. and that's that last time I had a Vic.

Your habit is small, 3 pills a day ain't nutin'. But, I started with 4 a day and went up from there. My doc pretty much gave me as many as I needed/wanted--he even knew I was bouncing drug stores. Well, I think the DEA forced him into retirement.

So you may find yourself taking them when you don't need them, and you're obviously scratching another kind of itch. Sub may not be for you--you don't sound like a pill junkie to me.

Good luck in your quest to straighthood!

PQ
