Default Urgent question about LEVOXYL (Levothyroxine)

Recently I had heart surgery and afterwards was diagnosed with under active thyroid,(Hyporthyroidism). I have taken the above medication now for about 2 months. Today test results indicated that my thyroid is now overactive,(Hyperthyroidism). My consern is that the Dr. wants to treat the symptoms with a double dose of the same medication (50 mcg. instead of 25 mcg.) Have any of you heard of this before? Won't doubling up on the medication just cause the thyroid to react more?
HELP PLEASE !

Doesn't look like it should be used, by itself, for both.

"PRESCRIBED FOR: Levothyroxine is approved to treat hypothyroidism and to suppress thyroid hormone release in the management of cancerous thyroid nodules and growth of goiters. In addition, Synthroid, Levoxyl and Levothroid also are prescribed with anti-thyroid drugs, for example methimazole (Tapazole), to manage thyrotoxicosis (high thyroid hormone levels due to over-activity of the thyroid gland). Thyrotoxicosis may result in the growth of goiters and/or hypothyroidism. "

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~

I can almost relate to what you are going through. I started with hyperthyroid and my Dr used PTU.....can't remember what that stood for. After about 2 years my thyroid reversed....hypo and put me on levothyroxin. But i found that it wasn't really doing anything for me. They just kept upping my doses. Then i found another alternative a MUCH healthier alternantive and i can say that it actually worked for me. I know of a few other people that it worked for also. Reply to me if you want to hear what it is that i found...you might be interested
