Default Tinnitus mystery!

I have just been stricken with unbearable tinnitus in one ear...ringing day & night! ENT specialists reckons it's probably hearing degeneration & that I'll have to live with it! But I suspect it maybe something else. I have been on Oxazepam, off & on for 20yrs & over the last 4-5yrs have also taken Temazepam & Stillnox for sleep and Xalatan for glaucoma in my eyes. It seems a coincidence but my tinnitus also developed over the last 4 yrs starting with a little ringing & becoming impossible now. I have since stopped oxazepam, temazepam & stillnox because its seems to make it worse. Apart from the tinnitus, I seem to get flu like sympyhoms regularly ...also ear sensitivity & itching, sometimes cold feeling in my ears, with body aches and soreness on the scalp & bad sinuses. Wonder if anyone has a similar problem!

I have had bad tinnitus, also chirping, for many years. It is worse somedays than others. Or, maybe I am used to it after so long. Yesterday when it rained, the pressure dropped and it was real bad. Today is better. Dont know any treatment or diagnosis. The other flu like symptoms sound more like withdrawals, from whatever you were taking. Anyway, have you experienced dizziness, loss of balance or naseua? just curious, as my daughter has recently developed vertigo and is being tested for Menieres. She also has bad tinnitis. And, lastly...my ears have always itched, at least for years/ I once scratched them so much (in my sleep) that I ended up in the hospital with severe infection.. some say its a fungus. I try to put hydro cortisone on a qtip and put it way in and rub it (the ear) and it does help with the itching. Hope this helps you;

ellen

I have been trying various remedies for my tinnitus but not successful so far. I am trying Chinese herbal remedy but this will take a long while for any effects. I have also just tried Tebonin(Ginko bilboa extract from Germany). It had some interesting effects after the second day..my sight seemed better & my feet & hands felt warmer due to improved circulation I believe. However my tinnitus seemed to be more intense & I seemed to develop soreness in the head. I have stopped taking it as I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work.
I do not get any dizziness or naseua. My ears do get stuffy frequently especially when driving. I need to gently blow my nose to relief the discomfort.
Patrick.
