Default Tell your dr. you are addicted?

I was talking to abey and the topic came up as to whether or not to tell your prescribing dr. that you are addicted to the pain meds they are giving you. My thoughts are that there is such a stigma attached to being an "addict" that it is better to get help somewhere else, like a recovery center or a specialist, who is more likely to see your addiction as a disease and to not be labeled as a "druggie" or "junkie".
Any thoughts?

Well, I think it really depends. Are you abusing the meds or just taking them as prescribed? If you are taking them as prescribed, so you aren't running out early, the doc who prescribed the meds should not really be upset because they know the reality of prescribing them, and they know the difference between dependency and addiction.

Really, either route you go, your doc needs to know what is going on with you. A treatment center specializes in people who have been abusing meds and are totally addicted, they will not take on a person who had been using them as they should and has just become dependent.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~

I mean addicted and abusing - running out early because you are taking more than prescribed.
