Exclamation Suboxone and Pregnant

I just started suboxone today and I'm pregnant and didn't tell my doctor cause than he might not give it to me...I'm planning on getting an abortion soon [ ithink]...I don't want to go through withdrawl...I can't stand it. Suboxone makes me feel alot better but it still makes me feel kinda weird and clammy. I don't know when I should tell my doctor I don't want him to take me off it, I would like to switch to subutex though...But I have a feeling he'd just discontinue it. I went to try and get an abortion but they couldn't do it cause I had used heroin the day before. I waited 4 ********ing hours than they told me that when I was ass naked on the table. Sucked. I don't even know if they'll take me back now but I don't even know if I can get an abortion when you're on suboxone? They wouldn't let me while I'm on heroin, what the difference? They said that the anestiesa or the sedatatives [dont know which one, or both] could like kill me if mixed with that. So I'm assuming its the same with sub, unless theyre just dumbasses. I was so pissed. Now I'm 8 weeks and don't have alot of time left and don't want do it without the sedatives...:/ Ugh...I don't know what to do...

I know a young lady from the methadone clinic I used to attend that recieved an abortion on 70mg of methadone. She did not inform them she was taking it. I have heard of several other patients at the clinic that were on sub that recieved abortions but dont know what they told their drs or if it is safe! Try to goggle it. In the case with the methadone patient they didnt put her fully under just mildly sedated. They usually dont put you under for an abortion atleast from what I've heard. She said she had no complications aside from the emotional ones. I dont know your situation so I dont know if you want an abortion because you are a drug addict or just arent ready to be a parent....whatever the reason if you did want to keep this baby useing methadone while pregnant has been successfull in many, many patients....just some info. One of my best friends used methadone all through her pregnacy and had a healthy baby girl. the baby had mild w/d symptoms at birth which were taken care of by breast feeding then slowly weening her off breast milk to formula. The worst of her w/d was excessive sneezing and some extra crankiness. The hospital or pediatrition felt no need for methadone supplements. She is a happy 1 and a half year old now she is a tad smaller than some babies her age she is in the 50% of babies in the US on the growth charts. So Sorry if I crossed any lines I know it is none of my business what you decide to do but I thought maybe just shareing what I know of addiction to opiates and pregnancy may help alittle best of luck to you. I hope you are successfull in getting clean!
You sound unsure of your decision to have this abortion. There are options if you would like to talk email me. MY heart goes out to you I have had 2 miscarriages and they still effect me to this day and probably will for life. I can understand what a hard decision it is for you to have to make...my sister(also a herion addict) has had to make this decision and she waited way to long to make up her mind causeing complications...its an almost impossible decision to make

Although Suboxone has not been proven safe in pregnancy the way methadone has, they are having good results so far with pregnant moms on Sub, and the babies are having milder withdrawals on it. Most doctors will switch you to subutex if you are pregnant. Also, I doubt seriously that your doctor would take you off sub if you tell him of your pregnancy, as that would be VERY dangerous to the baby--quite possibly fatal. Putting you into withdrawals while pregnant is a HUGE no-no medically and can easily result in fetal demise.

He might want to switch you to methadone, as there is much more data to support its safe use during pregnancy.

If you choose to abort it is ESSENTIAL that you tell your doctor that you are on suboxone. They could use a medication that would throw you into immediate, precipitated withdrawals if you don't let them know. Opioid pain meds cannot be used in conjunction with suboxone because of this.

First of all you need to do some more research on the medication you are taking because it seems like your not very informed yet on how Subs works etc? It makes me so angry when doc's give out meds and don't give a thorough orientation to the patient about to take them!

Second-what the hell kind of abortion clinic are you going to? The most you should need for anethesia at 8weeks (up to 12weeks) is a mild anti-anxiety drug like valium. A early abortion is a very simple procedure that doesn't require you have IV meds of any type! The simply manually dialate your cervix a bit, and vacuum after giving you a ultra sound.

I would look into a different place for the abortion, a place that will be a little more understanding of your situation. You could also look into a chemical abortion--which requires you only take a pill and stay at home.
