Default suboxone for postacute withdrawal syndrom

Has anyone started Suboxone for postacute withdrawal syndrome? 30 years of big time opiate addiction, 3 months clean. Is Suboxone a good idea for someone who has already been detoxed and went through rehab but having really, really bad cravings and withdrawal symptoms?

Man that is a hard one from where I stand with 6 months in on suboxone but I know what you are saying I quit opiates for about 5 months one time & went back to them & that is no good but I had my reasons which I suspect is not much different from yours. So about 3yrs. later I started on the sub. & have not even wanted to take any opiates..The choice is yours but before you start back with opiates I would say get on the sub. the only problem with the sub is eventually you will have to get off it but in the meantime you can get your life together..Defiantly get on sub. rather than going back!!!! Because if you start back on opiates you may not ever get the chance again --know what I mean?...Charlie

taking suboxone will just cause you to go through acute withdrawals again when you come off of it. then it will cause PAWS (post accute withdrawals) also. long term sub use causes PAWS that last a very long time.
by not taking anything you are decreasing the time that you will have PAWS. best thing for PAWS is good exercise ( i know, its hard when you feel ********************py) and a good diet.
Please do not take another opiate/oid. Nothing is out there to ease your PAWS without causing you to go back through it again. If you do go on sub. then you will have to go through acute withdrawal and PAWS again. PAWS usually comes at the 30day, 60day 90day and 6mth marks. If you wait it WILL subside. This is your body healing, you are having endorphin flux's caused by stopping endorphin creation during addiction. Take a walk, go fishing, to a movie, have hot sex, sky diving, do nothing. Doing nothing is something because even nothing is not taking drugs. You CAN do it. KEEP going. IT GETS BETTER OVER TIME. Good days and bad days...sound familiar. Dont let a bad day cause worse

Default thanks so much for your input

Benpharmer:

I really, really appreciate your advice. I have really been struggling with this. When I take the Suboxone I don't feel in control anymore, and you know how us addicts love to be in control.

Suboxone does make me feel a lot better physically, but not mentally.

Thanks again, still struggling with it.

This just proves how different we are. I feel great and I feel like I am in control versus when I was on the pills. They were controlling me and they were all I could think about. Now, I will be honest, I still have thoughts about the pills like when I am doing something and it reminds me of them but its not like a craving where I have to have them. I would rather be on suboxone than the pills. At least suboxone isn't killing my liver, raising my blood pressure or affecting my appearance, etc... Maybe your dose isn't correct. Good luck.
