Default Starting suboxene on Mon/have questions

I am starting suboxene treatment on Monday morning 8:40 for addiction to norcos. I am 24 and have been additcted for over three years. I had surgery three years ago and have been addicted ever since. I've done some research and am wondering when is the last time I can take a norco. My doctor said Saturday afternoon. I've read other places 12 hours? I plan on taking my last pill around three today. DOes anyone have any suggestions from own experiences?

You need to be in withdrawl before taking the suboxone or you will really go into terrible withdrawl when you take it.Try and take your hydros tonight and none tomorrow. You should be in withdrawl a little bit by monday morning. The suboxone is a great drug and will help you in your recovery.Good luck.....Dave

Default Thanks

I took my last pill around three. I also have a few klonopins to help tomorrow if needed. I am going to try not to take them if I can. Any other info you have for me would be greatly appreciated. I've read alot about the treatment but would love more info from people who have gone through suboxene treatment

There is another poster here named Dave and he's on suboxone right now. He's had a major addition and the suboxone has done wonders for him.
I know it's going to be tough but don't take any opiates today(sunday). The worse your in withdrawls the better the suboxone works.Good luck and let us know how you make out tomorrow morning....Dave(MPVT)

Default Hey Meg

Congrats,

I have been on Suboxone since 12-01-06 and it's saved my life more than I could ever imagine. It's very important that you are in withdrawl when you take your first suboxone. If not, you are going to wish you would have been. I was on methadone when I switched and I got so sick, I really thought I was going to die. The doctor gave me 3 days worth of subutex and it helped me. Just make sure you don't do anything on Sunday or Monday. Good Luck.

Well there isnt much more that I can say that these guys havent...Before you start taking the suboxone you will have to be in w/d,not full w/d just starting to get sick...My Dr. did the same for as Kevin Dr. did,and the only reason that she did'nt just keep me on subutex is because you can melt them and shoot them(I was an IV heroin user)...The Dr. also still has me on klonopin and she first gave it to me so I could pop them and chil out until w/d's got unbearable then I began taking my subutex for 3 days, and moved onto the suboxone...Good luck!

PS. make sure that you are VERY honest about your addiction or you will get underdosed..

OH yeah also to give you a time line when I first went to see this suboxone Dr. I took my last shot of heroin around 10 am,went to the Dr. at like 2:30,and started my sub's around 9 at night just to be safe even though by that point I was sick as a dog..I just wanted to make sure I did'nt screw anything up..

Smile Anxious

24 hours without those pills...so far have been feeling okay. have taken small amounts of klonopin (.25mg) thru out day and its been helping w/irritability. Also, trying to stay busy...cleaning car, walking on treadmill....just want tomorrow morning to come so I can start the treatment process..

I've been reading alot of posts and other info about suboxone and have some concerns:

1. I like to have glasss of wine or beer some nights when I get off work. I'm talking one-three, how will this affect subx treatment? I 've read dont mix like with other pain killers but I always have.... I am not a heavy drinker but enjoy good tasting wine and beer!!!!

2. Length of treatment: should I tell my doctor I want the smallest dose that will still keep me comfortable? For the shortest period of time. Ive read about the tapering schedule.....Concerned I'll be addicted to another pill and have to depend on something to function

3. I've heard some doctors are only in it for the money. I feel I found a good doctor. He's a psychiatrist and head of behavioral health at local hospital. It is pretty pricy but I do have good insurnace. I havent contacted them yet to see about coverage but have read over my plan. It says I have mental health parity. Does anyone know what that means.

Just typing all this helps me.......if you want to respond that would be great.

I definelty believe suboxene and counseling will be the best treatment for me...I'll be in it for the long haul, if thats what it takes.............

Thanks....never thought I 'd be writing about this online...feels great...thanks for support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully tomorrow a.m comes soon. 8:40 my appt

Ok let me try and answer all these questions for you...

You can drink on suboxone,BUT not alot at all because it will make you deathly ill if you go overboard and rock out,but a few beers or a few glasses of wine and you will be fine

By all means tell your Dr. what you want from this treatment, and tell him/her that you want just enough to be comfortable and not stay on long term...

Im not sure about the health insurance thing b/c that varies insurance company by company..BUT yes I have talked about the scammer Dr.s who are in it for the money on this board many time b/c its VERY true,my first sub Dr. was one of them...

I hope that clears some things up for you atleast, and also hope that your apointment went well...Good luck suboxone is really going to help you as long as you LET it help...

Smile 1st day of suboxene

Today was my first appointment and I feel great. He first gave me 2mg...half hour later checked my blood pressure and pulse. Little while after that given another 2mg....and all w/d symptoms were gone. 2 hours after that I was given 4mg...checked bp and pulse and waited for about an hour before going home. Dr. said I responded well..... I couldnt believe how good I felt, it was very emotional for me....finally feeling good with no cravings...not worrying how I am going to get my next pills. I feel so free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:

The doctor is great and I feel this process is going to change my life. I was also given a list of couselors who specialize in addiction and suboxene treatment. I will be making calls tomorrow and start counseling asap.

Only problems I had was that I was very very very tired. I was going to post when I got home around 1 ( was at dr. about 5 hours), but couldnt keep my eyes open. I took about a four hour nap...and woke up feeling great. He said I might feel a little restless tonite but nothing to bad.....So far feeling like a million bucks.

Im going back tomorrow at 9:20 for another dose...he said he'll start me at 12mg tomorrow and then give me a prescription for a week untill I see him next tuesday. He explained about why they give more the next day. Did anyone encounter this?

I felt so tired after 8 mg....I dont know how I 'll stay awake with 12 mg.....
