A dangerous habit to get into.Xanax is a benzo so those are the effects you will get albiet a little faster then taking it by mouth.Benzodiazipine addiction is terrible and to withdrawl from them can be lethal.Be careful and if you can don't even take them.......Dave

Taking meds this way is never a good idea, and I am not talking about the abuse and addiction possibilities.

Many people do not realize that most drugs in pill/tablet form have binders and fillers that are not meant to be digested and used by our bodies. When you take a pill as prescribed, by swallowing it, these are normally just expelled in your bodily waste. When you crush a tablet and snort it or shoot it up, of even chew up a tablet, you are injecting these things into your body.

When you sort the pill, you get these substance directly into your lungs and sinus cavities. This can creat sinus bloackages and other problems. There was also recently an autopsy on HBO's Ask Dr. Baden where a man died and no one was sure why, though they suspected overdose. Well it turns out he had actually been crushing and snorting drugs for so long, he had created tremendous blockages in his lungs, so that last time he got high, and the drugs caused respiratory depression, which is a normal side effect, his body could not get enough Oxygen into his lungs and in his sleep, he slowly smothered to death.

You can just ponder the possibilities from there, of what would happen by injecting these substances or chewing the pills up and swallowing them. You can create blood vessel blockages, intestinal blockages and etc. This happens more often than you realize because most of these types of death are reported as heart attacks, embolisms, or drug related accidents and the newspapers or TV reports don't give the exact details.

If you read the full prescribing information for most pills, especially the time released variety such as Oxycontin and certain sleep meds, you will often see a little warning that says you might see the pill in the toilet after a bowel movement, but not to worry because that is just an empty shell, the medication has all been used.

Even a pill that seems to dissolve fully in your stomach has binders and fillers that are often broken down into smaller particles, but not used by your body, so even a pill that isn't time released can present the same hazards for those that crush and snort them.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~
