Risks to being on suboxone the rest of your life (age 26)? Hey all. I had a oxy, roxi, vico, hydro habit. Usually 25 of the 10/500's per day, or 160mg of oxi, or some mixture of the two.
I've been on subs for about 3 years now. The most I've done daily is 8mg and I had it down to 3mg at one point for two months. I started it because I heard all the stories about how easy it was to quit, with no withdrawal symptoms!! Hahaha. How funny. I got down to 3mg about a year ago, and I went 5.5 days. 5.5 miserable, horrible, sleepless days.
So as many of you have learned so did I. So I went back to the doc, and now I am back to 8mg a day, because I have no intention of quitting them anytime soon. Might as well be comfortable right?
So I am wondering what info is out there concerning long term dosage. I don't see any reason to quit as long as it is available, I see it the same as people who take blood pressure medicine the rest of their lives. It's avoiding a problem in a legal way, so I don't feel guilty about it like a lot of posts I see here.
I am a little worried that my doc may not agree, that one day he will say, "OK, time to end treatment!" I havent really mentioned that I would like to stay on it for life, but like I said it has been three years. And once I remember him mentioning something about people being on it for life so I don't think he would be opposed to it. I am hesitant to mention it to him though, for fear he might take it as some kind of sign and decide it is time for me to quit.
But anyway, back to my question, are there any studies or statistics concerning life time dosage? I know it is relatively new, so there probably isn't anything that covers more than a 15 year period, but any info or experience would be appreciated.
