Question for anyone who's actually beaten their Opiate addiction. I'd like to hear from anyone who's actually beaten their addiction to Vic, Perc, etc... I have come through the detox process using a taper and went from about 30mg a day to none in an 8 day period. Some tough nights involved but overall, not as bad as the first time I tapered faster.
There is a lot on these boards about the detox period but I'd like to hear about the longer term recovery. Specifically, will I ever be back to normal again?
I've been on and off for 6 years and kicked it one time for only a few months. What brought me back (aside from cravings) was the lack of sleep and the inability to get truly "comfortable." For the few months I was off the first time, I would always wake up at 5am and feel more and more tired by the day.
I got to a point where I felt like my blood pressure was dropping and like my arms and legs were very heavy. I wasn't sure if I was experiencing PAWS or some other condition. I thought the lack of sleep was what was causing it.
I really want to succeed this time but I need to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Will I ever be able to get natural, full night sleep again? How messed up is my brain chemistry and how long will it take to correct? Does anyone recommend anti-depressants for the emotional swings?
I work out often and started an intense diet and workout prior to quitting which I why I think it was a little easier detox this time around. Will this speed up my overall recovery?
I figure if Matthew Perry and Brett Favre can do it, I'd like to know how. Any advice would be appreciated. |
