Default please help!!!! - ulcerative colitis/Asacol pills

I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. My doctor said that I must take Asacol (9 pills a day) for the rest of my life. I am not a pill person and would like to stop taking Asacol although he highly recommends against it. Does anyone have any advice?

Hey Cathy. I have the same thing but mine is Crones,(same symptoms). I have to take six Asacol a day. I have been on them for about a year. I don't really have that much advice to give you. It is very painfull and that medicine has helped me alot. I still hurt but I have noticed alot of improvement with the asacol. My dr. told me that I may be able to take less than six a day if I get better, but I will probably always have to take atleast three a day. So far I have not had any side effects.

I have just been on this Asacol for about three months or so and no one has told me anything about the reason I am taking this medication and as I read this stuff here I realize that I am getting a bums rush by a group of gastro guys to darn busy to talk to little ol me. Anyway, I have been told I have Colitis but here is the thing I do not have diarrhea. Thank God for that. I did have a terrible time with constipation stomach pain & nausea. I have to say that i have not gone to the bathroom this well ever in my entire life. My complaint is this. Even with medicare my co pay on this drug is 40 bucks a month. I have to take 2 tablets 3 times a day. I'm about to cut down on this med to see if the nausea is from the asacol or something else. My question is can you have colitis without the diarrhea or is it likely I have something else entirely? does any one have any idea?
