Default Percocet w/d help??!!

First I would like to say hello to everyone and Im glad I found this forum. Just reading through some of the posts here as helped me alot but there are some questions I hope someone can help me with.

I have been on Percocet 10/325 for the past 2 years taking about 5 a day for the past year. I am tired of being dependent on them to do everyday things so i have stopped them. This is my second day without them. The worst feeling I have is the anxiety. Feels like my heart is pounding and I cant stay still. Havent really eaten much and cant sleep at all. Just wondering how long this might last? Ive been taking benadryl to try to sleep and calm myself down but it doesnt really help. If anyone has any advise for me that would be greatly apprecated.

Hi b18sol6
First of all congrats on day 2... That's Great...
I had a 3 year addiction with pain pills and quit them
so I understand how you are feeling...
I'm going to give you the The Thomas Detox Recipe.

Let us know how you are doing. it really helps to post when your going thru this...
There are allot of people here that will want to cheer you on...
So take a deep breath and lets get some time behind you...

Talk to you soon, Melinda

PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor, simply a long-time Rx opiate junkie who has had many opportunities to develop a way to detox. This is a recipe for at-home self-detox from opiates based on my experience as well as that of many other addicts. It is not intended as professional medical advice. It is always wise to make sure none of the recipe ingredients or procedures conflict with medications you may be taking. Likewise, if you have any medical condition, disease, allergy or any other health issue, consult your doctor before using the recipe. Thanks, Thomas

This recipe is designed for cold turkey opiate detox. It assumes that you can get about 5 to 7 days away from your job or household responsibilities during which you can sleep, veg and act as miserable as you feel. Opiate WD mimics the symptoms of the common flu, so, if you need a smokescreen, hide behind a bad case of the flu.

If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.

For the Recipe, You'll need
Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.
Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store). [generic brand anti-diarrheal is fine. Don't take it unless really uncomfortable]
L-Tyrosine* (500 mg caps) from the health food store.* [See Warning]
Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper and Magnesium.
Vitamin B6 caps. [or stress B-complex?]
Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available). [many gyms offer free trials]
How to use the recipe
Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst W/D symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5. [melatonin worked well after day 4 for me. Sleeplessness sometimes hangs on awhile]

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate W/D symptom. [I like Epsom salts in the tub. Forces Magnesium into the muscles]

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. DON'T TAKE IT, however, if you don't need it.[Diarrhea is the bodies way to aid in the detox so take Immodium or generic for the comfort factor, if needed]

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate W/D malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine*. Try 2000 mg, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mg. Take the L-Tyrosine* with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine* will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine* can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate W/D, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine* is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help. [*Read the Warning first! *L-Tyrosine* is great. *SamE 400* mg works for mood too]

With breakfast, take the mineral supplement.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better. [Walking gets the blood and lymph systems working, helping you detox better.]

PLEASE NOTE: If you have any medical complications, first check with your doctor before detoxing to verify that this regimen is safe for you. [Very important note]

[WARNING If you are on anti-Depressants, use medical supervision on L-Tyrosine, SamE and all mood enhancers. There can be a risk if taking L-Tyrosine, 5 HTP if you are on a tricyclic or a MAIO antidepressant's ...It can cause a spike in blood pressure.]

mas recipe that may help you some.

If you went CT,the worst of the physical symptoms will be gone by 72 hours.
Remember the most important part though. The hardest part is staying clean
just don't give in to those urges like we all did many times. You are going to
feel like a brand new person very soon. Trust me,that feeling does come, and
it was much better than any lortab could ever give me.

Every person is different and i guess i was one of the lucky ones,by day 4 of
CT from my 5+ 10mg lortab habit I started feeling normal again. It gets better
every day now. I never tried the thomas recipe, but I did invest in a bottle of
Immodium AD to help me through the first few days.

Your going to be OK...your on day three and the anxiety will settle down in a few days...your nervous system is just been numbed the last 2 years so its just wondering what the heck is going on, but it wont take long to settle back down.

do your drs know about your going c/t if so ask for some valuim to take for a few days. If you dont want to tell the dr whats up then say you've had some trouble sleeping due to alot of extra stress you are having this week. Drs usually dont mind helping with anxiety/sleep as long as you make it clear you only need it for the hard time, not for long periods of time. If you have no dr try valerion root for the anxiety it helps if you take 3+ of them in my case atleast. For me benadryl made my restless legs WAY worse and most OTC sleep aids use the ingredient in benadryl as the sleep aid. If its working for you continue but I found melitonion to be a much more effective sleep aid, they even make it in extended release now where I live.
If you go to work still feeling down just say your under the weather, the work will likely take your mind off the w/d and you will feel better. Remember the hot baths or showers before bed they really do help as simple as it may sound they help. The Thomas recipe did help to relieve some of my w/d symptoms but I was c/t'ing off 3+ years of methadone so I ended up giving suboxone a try its working for me now, but I still wish so badly I could have stuck it out c/t. It just wasnt in the cards for me w/d from that can last a LONG time with post acute w/d to follow so I just couldnt do it.
I think you are a very strong person to quit these c/t with hardly a complaint at all. You will make it and be free from these pills. Just Dont give into that little evil voice telling you "just take 1 to deal with this or that" You will end up at square one. If your open to it check out some NA meetings. I have found them very helpful & comforting. There I know im not alone. I'll be praying for your speedy recovery. You feel like a new person when your done

Thanks for the support. I will try some of the other things mentioned today. I figured it out I have went without for 75 hours. It feels a little better knowing Ive made it this far and didnt even know it. I threw away the rest I had so I would give in to them. I was in a head on car crash 2 years ago and have suffered from cronic headaches ever since. At first it was for the pain, but then it turned into I needed them for everday things. I just got tired of depending on something to be able to do everyday things. Now if just affraid I wont be able to do the same things I was because it feels like having to learn to do things all over again. But I have made up my mind to do this and a place like this is very helpfull, so thank you everyone again. Its like having a war inside your head one side telling you to take one so you can do this, and the other side saying no you can do it without it, it will be differant but you can do it. So thanks again for just listing to me and the support. It means alot.

Hi b18sol6
I still have the little angel - Devil thing going at times...LOL but now I just tell the devil to SHUT UP....
I forgot how to live without pills also...OH MAN it was scary the first time I had to go to work without pills...But I made it just fine and you will to...
Robert told me to break it down as small as I needed to...so I took it 1 hour at a time...that seemed to work for me....
Everyday that goes by you will just keep getting stronger, before you know it you will be kick en A$$ and wonder why you didn't do this a long time ago...
Your doing great...
Were proud of you...
Talk to you later, Melinda

It's going to happen soon. Melinda is right. One day you'll say if I had known
I'd feel this good,I would have quit a long time ago. Getting out and doing
something is a good sign of recovery. I know I cannot use again,or I'll be right
back where I started and I don't want to go through it again. I just got sick
and tired of being sick and tired. The mental part is still ahead, but if you've
made it 4 days CT,the physical symptoms are almost gone. Pretty soon, your
body will start producing natural endorphins that will replace the false imprint
left by the pain meds.

Well I thought I would write a quick post for the start of day 4. I still couldnt sleep at all, funny thing is I dont feel tired at all. The anxiety is still there and getting ready to head out to work. Im worried about today first day in a long time I havent taken anything and went to work. I almost feel like Im right on the edge, I feel almost normal again, but the anxiety and sleeplessness remeind me of what happing to my body. Im just trying to look at it like another new day, and just trying to get it over with. I know I keep thanking everyone but this forum has been a lot of help. It feels good to get some things of your chest, and for people to listen and help. Thanks again

I was on here all the time when I was in my w/d ...LOL
It really helps to post.I would say Ill be back in two hours...it helped me get thru the two hours and then I would do it again.
You will make it just fine at work, but I know how you feel. I was terrified on my first day back to work...
But after it was over it really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be...

But Ive made it to day 5 so far so hopefully it will end soon. Does anyone know of anything that might help with the anxiety that I can do during the day? I would feel alot better if I could get rid of that.

Hi b18sol6.

So you're 5 days into opiate detox/withdrawal? That's ****ing amazing!! My Opiate withdrawal was TERRIBLE and lasted a good 7-ish days. I was coming off a 50-60mg per day addiction to Hydrocodone, so I know how poopy you feel. My opiate sobriety date is 2/12/09, so I'm not that far from where you are now.

How are you feeling today?

If you can, please don't take any more Percocets. You are more than 1/2 way through the withdrawal and, as my outpatient counselor told me last night, the only way out is through. You can do it!
