Default percocet addiction, i have a question.

i know fully that i am addicted to percocet, and roxicodone.
i have a question, what are the longterm effects of these drugs.
someone told me that i will die from them, could someone clear this up for me.
i take around 40mg of oxycodone daily, in 2-3 settings.
i would like to know what the longterm effects are on my body, and will it cause my kidneys, and liver to shutdown.

thanks

the oxycodone itself is relatively safe (unless you od, then you will die), the main and most harmful side effect of it is ADDICTION, as you have discovered.
it is the acetaminophen in the percs that you need to worry about as far as liver damage...I dont know if people realize that the greatest danger to their organs when abusing percs, vics, etc is not the narcotic, but the toxicity of the acetaminophen...

the percs that i take have 325mg acetaminophen, i take about 3 of them per day, so 975mg, i also take oxycodone without acetaminophen.
i have severe pain, i do however follow the prescriptions striclty.
i was wondering though if what i am taking is real bad for me, or if this amount is fairly well accepted.

thanks

That is not too bad, 1000 mgs/day should be tolerated fairly well by your liver, common medical advice recommends no more than 4000mg per 24hours and they say fatal toxicicity can start at the 10000mg/day level, but it all depends on YOUR liver, what conditions you may have, how much you drink, etc
If you need to be on narcotics for an extended period of time though, I personally would ask for an extended release opiate with no acetaminophen.

Default side effects

I used to take up to 12 perocets a day, I have now graduated to Oxycontin and roxicodone. I'm addicted as well. I'm not a doctor but eventually acetaminephine ( tylenol ) the ingrediant in percocet will build up in your liver, it did in mine. Drinking alcohol makes it twice as bad. Long-term use will affect your kidneys as well. I'm not sure about the roxicodone, I take that myself. Eventually anything taken for a long peroid of time will affect yoyr organs. When my liver enzymes went high I quit taking tylenol based pain meds. Know I have a serious issue with oxycontin which will probably be toxic to me also. I hope I didn't scare you but doctors don't always tell you the negative things about drugs.
