Default Paxil

I have a question. Lately I have had a lot of stress and things going wrong..... more than just quitting opiates... my doctor upped my prescription for paxil from 20mg a day to 40 mg a day. I was wondering if this seems like a lot or if this is normal? Will I become totally dependant and how will I be??? I hava ebeen on Paxil for almost a year... I went from Lexapro to prozac and now paxil..... but, my dosage has been upped from 10mg in the beginning to 40 mg now....

Well they can just put you on 40mgs until you are over this rough patch and then lower it again, my husband has been on it for years and has done that several times. They up it a bit to help him out when he hits a rough time in life and is struggling, then when he is less stressed and things are better, they lower it again. So when you do have that option, and later when things improve for you, you can talk to your doctor about it. My husband has usually been able to switch back to a lower dose with no adverse effects.

As to dependence, well that can happen with anything you use all the time, even orange juice. Your body just gets used to having. Though my DH has never had any severe symptoms if he forgot to take it, usually just some tiredness and a little irritability, and like I said, he has been on it for years now, a little over ten years actually, since our son was just a few months old and he is now 11.

My information is not guaranteed correct. I do not get them right all the time, but I do enjoy the hunt~

Oh beware, the higher the dose of Paxil, the more risk of sexual side effects. Whenever my DH takes 40mgs, he can get hard and have sex, but never orgasms, great for me, LOL!, but he doesn't enjoy it much.

Thanks for the advice. I am goign through an extremely rough patch. Harder than anything I have ever encountered in my life. I am so tired of my life..... seriously... just tired of it... I need an out.. More and more each day I want to run to drugs... My boyfriend and I are broken up and I miss him ungodly.. I ****ed that relationship up though and he is hurting bad. We planned to get married have kids we knew our wedding song.... his family loved me vice versa.... Now, that is all down the drain. Not only that but now instead of trying to stop using he is using even more and more and more to try to numb his pain because he doesn't know how to handle it. i am so afraid he will hurt himself but he just won't listen to me..... As for sexual side effects.... We have had those as far as opiates go-he could never get off. But, now it doesn't matter anymore becasue we won't be making love ever again.
