Morticia... Thanks for asking.. I have been off percs just about a week and on sub since last Sunday.. I feel good. First few days were a little weird but last few have felt wonderfully alive.

Sorry to hear you are in pain today but at least the o.d. fear is gone! I can't imagine having to take something for legitimate pain... that would make quitting a whole different ball game.. (as opposed to quitting recreational use like I was doing.)

Still looking for my m.i.a. buddies! Tinkers? Cranky? hahaah cranky I first typed in Kratom rather than Cranky...I always want to call you that...or Kryptonite...[8)][^]

Kranky here - I decided to start spelling it with a "K" from now on, so it goes with Kryptonite and Kratom - the grrreatest thing since sliced bread. I don't know why nobody else wants to try it - I'm pretty much home free after only a week! Why drag things out? I'm not judging anyone here, don't get me wrong, I'm just expressing my enthusiasm for Kratom. It's legal, not too expensive, and you don't have to get involved with pinhead doctors. I mentioned a while back that they use is in Thailand for opiate addiction treatment, just like they use sub here. I personally think it's more effective, and less scary - again; my OPINION. I'm thinking less and less about Norcos every day, although the pain coming back is an issue I'll have to deal with. Hi everyone! Morticia- please don't feel

Morticia - Let me finish that thought - not sure what happened there. PLEASE don't feel worthless. I know that feeling very, very well - it just drags you down. You didn't do anything evil, you just got caught up in a whirlpool, but you're smart and courageous enought to realize there's a problem and seek help. My hat's off to you!!

Hey everyone!
I wanted to report 2 weeks today! I know that's not much, but I will take it.

Kaidog, You are like two weeks ahead of me so I love to see how you are feeling?

Dave, Welcome to this board! You are another great example of somebody who has success from the 12 step programs. Thanks for coming forth and spreading the message.

Kaidog, Congrats on your month clean! Make no mistake, every day clean for us is a miracle, and a month is a huge accomplishment. Keep coming back, and keep spreading the message of hope.

Morticia, 12 step programs have helped thousands of alcoholics and addicts to stay clean, often for decades. Is it for everybody? Maybe not, but I suggest giving it a try for 90 days. I did 90 meetings in 90 days in the beginning, and that was my first 90 days clean in many years. I don't get cravings in meetings, generally speaking. If you do in the beginning, that will most likely pass quickly.

Angela H - Thank you for your kind words and thanks for listening. It makes it all worth it when I get feedback from people like you who listen and may get some hope and encouragement. It is not my message, but a message that I carry - The message of hope for all of us to be free from active addiction. I love you too!

Everybody: Keep on keeping on.

Chrish

Hi all.....addiction is a cunning thing....its just not about quitting pills...its about learning to live life without the pills....thats the ups an downs....and there is not a human being out there who does'nt go through it...its how you deal with it that matters...and if you screw it up....its ok ....take it as a learning expererience.....

I was 28 days on sub........sufficient enough time to wean off in my case.....perhaps if you are a heavy heroin user it would be different...I took about 20-25 vikes per day for about 5 years..progressively......

I did not gain weight on sub....in fact I have lost signficantly as I had turned into a slug because of my opiate addiction...I cared more about where, when, how I was going to get drugs than anything else... so now I am at my normal weight and waiting for normal energy to return....hope all is well for everyone

Hello friends~
I was reading here about Sub and weight gain. I have not gained any weight on Sub, in fact, might have lost a few pounds. I don't seem to have much of an appetite, but then again, I usually don't anyway.
I had never heard of weight gain being a side-effect of Sub.

Morticia,
I wish you the very best of luck! I cant wait to see how great you are doing when you are done! I cant say I have had a personal experience with a clinic, but my husband got placed in one last year almost to the day, (he tried to kill himself due to anxiety and alcohol, and prob. alot of other things), he went into this place, and he at first wanted to be alone, left alone, etc. He was very anti-social, and just wanted to come home. After a few days, he really embraced the experience, and made huge progress. That was a lock down facility like the one you describe. He was there for a week, it was very hard for me and our two kids. He joined AA and has a great sponser, and now just celebrated 9 months completely clean. Yes, he did have some trouble adjusting at first, but his problems were with depression and anxiety which led to his abuse tendancies. He is getting so strong. It really inspires me, and I want to do better because of him.
I hope that helps even a little.

Hey y'all. Sorry I didn't reply quicker. No, I don't take maint. doses of anything. I was in a treatment center for 32 days and was off everything by the time I left. I did 90 in 90 meetings also, Chris. Actually, it was more like 180 in 180 per my sponsor. I love life today. It wasn't always the case, but it's true now. Guys, don't worry about weight gain. Worry more about not using. You can lose weight later if you need to. Morticia, people in treatment are just like you. They come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities. You'll be fine. Much love guys. David

Morticia,

Hi, I have been to detox several times in a couple different places. In my experiences the other patients have always been very nice people. You are all going through the same garbage together and therefor can relate well to eachother as well as draw strength and support from one another. It was always scary for me. I think the anticipation was worse though. Once you get there and start meeting people and settling in, it isn't that bad. The nurses are always very helpful and attentive to your needs. The whole point of inpatient detox is to be safe and well medicated. I have never felt horrible in detox, they have always kept me relatively comfortable. It is a great way to start your recovery. Inpatient is nice because it seperates you from the drugs. For 99% of addicts, some treatment/detox is needed to put this thing in remission and keep it there. You are doing something wonderful by going in and I applaud your courage.

I forgot something else I wanted to comment on...

This is to anybody concerned about the weight gain topic. I am a personal trainer and I just wanted to shed some light on this. Drugs like suboxone and methadone do not cause people to gain weight. When dealing with gaining or losing weight, one thing matters. Calories. If you are in a caloric defecit, which means you are burning more calories than you are consuming, you WILL lose weight. If you are in a caloric surplus, taking in more than you are burning, you WILL gain weight. It is that simple. If you want to lose weight, eat less and move more, if you want to gain weight, eat more and move less. If you are eating a good diet and excercising, it doesn't matter if you are on sub or meth, you will not gain lbs. Plus, excercise is sooooooooo good for us mentally. If anyone has any questions about anything fitness related, I would be more than happy to answer them

Morticia,
Have you tried any pool excersizing? I hear that is great for people with bad backs. Things like water aerobics, lap swimming, those I hear are great for low impact excersizes. It also burns lots of calories.

My hubby is doing very well. I cannot believe we made it through that, but when he was in treatment, they identified those issue, (be sure and talk about them, PLEASE), and they got him on medications for that. NOw, in his case, he hated meds for depression, but he would be the first to admit today that they saved his life. They will be so helpful to you, they are not there to judge, they just want to help. I do have to say that I hope they do a family counseling thing with you though, something that will help your friends or family or both understand what you have been through to be supportive of you. You will be really fragile, and will definately need that support. In my case, I was really upset still from what he had done, so I need counseling to just deal with all of that. I understand now from my husband that depression is so lonely, and that is the great thing about this board, you can just type to someone, and they will be there. Before no time, you will be on your way!

Today is day 16 for me. c/t[:I]

Hello All..Hope everyone is well. One week ago right now I was doing my w/d in preparation of the sub...seems like forever ago. Today I went to the grocery store....used to get all perced up for something as simple as going to the grocery store..

You can't imagine the energy I had today walking thru produce. lol...I don't recall EVER having so much energy.. I don't know if I just forgot what normal energy was after so long on the percs, or if the suboxone itself gives energy.. whatever it is, I FEEL GOOD!!!!

To all those considering suboxone...GO FOR IT.. you will NOT regret it..Read my story.. I did not even WANT to quit the painpills...well I did, sort of... but I still went "kicking and screaming" as they say... I made my own decision quit, but wasn't sure I would be able to do it, or would like life without my crutch...Maybe suboxone is another type of crutch but I feel way better than I ever did on the pills.. I actually left my house this weekend.. Now how dumb does that sound?? But most of the time when I was on the pills I had no energy or desire to go ANYWHERE... it really does give you your life back.. I'm sure others on the sub plan, would echo that sentiment... Plus at a $50/day habit, I have now saved $400!!

It HAS only been a week free of the percs, but I just wanted to let you know that suboxone, along with the posts and support here have given me a new life.. I thank and love you all for your help...

Lisa

LisaGirl,
I thought that was so funny what you described about the produce isle. I totally know what you mean though about the energy, so I am not sure if it is the sub. Maybe we just are living clean and our bodies are so happy, we are in what tinkers has described as the honeymoon phase. Whatever it is, I love it! I was a motor mouth tonight with my family....blah, blah, blah, and I felt SO happy! It definately kicks butt on percs!

Great job on one week! That really is such a huge accomplishment! I cant believe I am at 16 days today, and almost 17!!! We just need to keep working on every day like it is our first, and hopefully, before too long, it will be a year like chrish. I hope anyone reading these posts are truly inspired by all these stories like you say LisaGirl. Give it a whirl! You have nothing to lose, but your concern about how many you have for today!

Good luck tomorrow Morticia! I am pulling for you!
Kaidog, where did you go?[?]
Good night, until tomorrow,
Patmamma

Lisa, Sparky

I have a quick note for you DON'T try to get off the sub to fast give it time dont listen to what people are saying only you know what dose you need or how long you need it for it doesent matter what drug you were using ie herion or pills each person is different and the sub works different in each person so do what you need to not what others say you should wait till your ready or you just might fall back to your old ways

Hey all! Tomorrow is 5 weeks for me and I'm still feeling better and better all the time. My only complaints are a lingering lack of energy and motivation to do things and an intermitant bout with cravings............... not so much for any high but just to get some energy back. All this makes me envious of those of you on sub who boast of your energy levels.

Never the less, I'm feeling fine. Clean is clean. After many, many years of abuse, I'm still feeling the changes within my body as systems slowly return to normal.

Kaidog, Great job on the 5 weeks! I think you are right about the energy will come back after you return completely normal. I think it just takes time. Excersize really helps!

Tinkers, so sorry to hear about your accident!I cant believe the Friday the 13th thing...weird!~ Are you having to take pain meds again? If so, I can say from experience, it will be a bit better next time to stop. Dont be hard on yourself, you certainly didnt ask for this, it could be you are being tested to deal with pain?

Okay, I totally messed up on what day its been for me, I am now on day 16. I think that is the way to add up more days after quitting, just add them randomly like me, pretty soon it will be a year[:I]

Patmamma,

No I'am not any pain meds because of my accident just otc and ice packs you know that otc things work when your not strung out on narcs.

Kaigog,

About energy I dont want to sound like a hippie but vitamins have really helped me and my wife with energy we both take multi vitamins from GNC along with a b-100 and gurrana every day and after a week we can tell the difference it takes time to get real energy we are so use to fake energy and lots of it, it take time to get use to not being super human your not your normal just like everyone else.

Tinkers:

How odd that you should mention the vitamin thing. As I was driving to the office this morning I was telling myself to stop by the natural food store on the way home tonight and pick-up a good multi-vitamin. Hadn't thought about the B complex but that's a good idea as well. Thanks for sharing it.

That's quite an accomplishment........... especially considering the really short stay on the sub. Huge congratulations your way. You've accomplished a lot.

One day at a time, a little bit at a time, we're getting better.
