Unhappy Oxycodone withdrawal as bad as heroine?

I used to be a heroine addict. I had about a 6-8 bag a day habit which I have been clean from for over 6 years. I had not done an opiate in any form since then. I was recently in a car accident which left me with a couple broken bones. I was given Percocet for the pain which I was apprehensive about taking but the pain was so great that I had little choice. I kept my doses to a minimum considering my past problems with opiates. I took about 10-20mg a day for about 10 days. I did not expect to feel any withdrawal symptoms from that dose for that short of a period of time but I was wrong. I am having all the same symptoms that I had when I detoxed from the heroine. I have the cold sweats, vomiting, diarreha, muscle aches, etc. Are my withdrawal symptoms worse due to me having a problem with the opiates that many years ago? It honestly feels like I am detoxing from heroine again. Is this common?

Smile Are you feeling better?

Hi Confused, just wanted to see how you were doing.

I read your story and my sisters were heroin addicts and one of them died (OD'd) and the other is doing great. She too had an operation and had to go on percocet, she switched to vicoden because the percocet made her feel horrible. She did fine getting off them once her pain subsided. It's tough for you guys and I can sympathize with you, honestly. I did want to let you know that I never had a problem coming off percocet after my many operations, I've actually not finished prescriptions at times. So you may want to talk to your dr about weening you.

I now have to take 10mgs a day due to an accident that occured about 5 years ago but have been taken them almost daily for about 2 1/2 years and have stopped now and then (they make me sick if I take more than 2 a day)but the pain was too much to take. I did experience a bit of what you were experiencing (I felt flu like symptoms). I was even given deloted (sp?) right after my operation in March and didn't even finish the prescription I was too scared to mix the drugs and had no problems.

If you can, just post an update so we know you're okay .
