Aloha everyone,

I am 51. My doc had me try taking Neurontin for hot flashes. Apparently, for some odd reason, it seems to help. He also said it may give me some relief for pain, as I have severe arthritis in my neck and low back along with bone spurs.

After only taking 3 doses, last evening I had what I think was a psychotic episode.

In one second, I felt this BAM, like I was totally messed up on drugs or something. Like someone slipped me 10 rufies. (i never took a rufie, but i can only imagine!).

My boyfriend said I was talking crazy and then started crying. I only remember feeling utterly insane and terrified. I didnt think I could walk, couldnt stop crying, and I couldn't shake these twisted, horrible, frightening feelings.

I also remember telling my coworker and boyfriend that I didn't feel quite right all day.

I have never had an episode like this before, and can only surmise that it was caused by the Neurontin. I was only on 300 mg at bedtime for 3 nights!

Oh, almost forgot. I also take 3 to 4 7.5 hydrocodones per day for my pain. I have been taking them for about 5 years now. I know my body is probably dependent on them, but I have chosen to take the meds and be functional. Without them, I wake up crying.

Anyone else have this happen?

I called the doc to tell him of my experience.

They called me back to say he would call me in something else. I asked, and it was the same thing but less miligrams.!!! I told him thanks but no thanks. Even at 100 mg, I do not want to chance it.

Frankly, I am shocked that he would have me take the same medication after such a scary episode.

Now he has prescribed Lamictol. i have no idea what that is. Gonna go look it up.
