My Dextox From Opiates

Day 1- I have been clean & sober in AA for 4 years. After undergoing numerous surgeries within an 18-24 month period my worst nightmare was back in my life. Opiate addiction. Late this afternoon I will take my last opiate & begin suboxone in the morning. My goal is to use the suboxone to help with withdrawal, not to stay on it. I know from experience you don't walk away from opiate addiction with having to go through some pain, even when using something to help you detox. But I know in my heart IT WILL PASS. I will be clean & sober again. And most importantly, HAPPY & free from this chain. Tomorrows message may not be on such a high note but I will try to document each day.

hi there! i wasn't sure if i should even post but since no one else has i am hoping this may bring some attention so cheeky or new york gal or robert or someone lol will see this. i am on methadone currently at a clinic. it was the best decision i made after a 5 year oxycontin addiction. anyway, reason i'm posting is this: You stated that you were going to take your last opiate tonight and then start suboxone tomorrow morning. I'm not an expert on this but I think that is a bad idea. (cheeky, newyorkgal, where ya at? lol) I think you have to be well into a 3 day detox before starting suboxone which you wouldn't be if you're doing as you said. A few weeks ago, my step brother came here EXTREMELY ILL b/c he was in precipitated withdrawal from taking a suboxone that morning and the last opiate he had had was 3 methadone JUST THE DAY BEFORE. Please understand I'm only trying to help. I may be wrong or not precisely right. I just wanted to post this at the small chance that if i am right it will save you alot of pain. I would want someone to do it for me. again, i apologize if i've been intrusive......good luck to you and hopefully someone will be on soon to answer if this was an over reaction or if i maybe helped you a bit

Best of luck to you! I am pretty sure that you have to be in withdraw for at least 24 hours to start suboxone because of the precipitated withdraw. Just be honest with the doctor about the last time you took an opioid and they will give it when your body is ready. Maybe make an appointment for the following morning?

It's great you are starting suboxine, but I think Ericamarie is right. You shouldn't take the suboxine tomorrow. I think it will make you go in to precipitated withdrawal. And from what I understand is terrible. There is something called a COWS worksheet that you could use to determine when it is time to take the suboxine. But don't get discouraged, someone on here with experience will help you. Please post again so these people can help you. Cheeky and NYG have tremendous knowledge as do Robert and Melinda and lots of others. good luck

It all depends of her opiate of choice, Erica. If you are on methadone, you have to give it a good 72 hours to get our of your system. If you are on pain pills its close to 24 hours or even less. It all depends of the half life of the doc. Meth has a long long half life, therefore the long wait, pills not so much. I hope for her sake she did not take the sub too early. All we can do is wait for her to post again. Where are you get clean ?
