Default Morphine addiction--please help!!!

Hi,

I have a friend that has been giving me morphine for pain I have been having. I have been on them for over a month and tried to stop taking them yesterday. I got so dizzy, had hot flashes, and horrible stomach cramps. I told her and she gave me enough to wean off. I am so scarred to stop taking them because I do not want to feel like that again (I was driving and had to pull over because everything was spinning).

Does anyone know a better fast way to come off of these horrible pills. I DO NOT want to take them anymore, but cannot function without them. I have a very busy job and cannot take a few days to withdrawal. I am also going on vacation in 7 days and really want to feel better.

I WIll try anything that will make me not have that dizzy feeling. I don't even mind the headaches....just want to feel kinda normal.

ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!!! I am only taking 20-35 mg / day.

THANKS!!!![xx(]

Hi, if you really want to get out fast, the best thing would be, instead of spending those 7 days in vacation, spend the money and the time in a quick detox. I know is nice to go for vacations, but when we have to choose between vacations or getting out from our addiction, the best is go for the second avenue, detox quick and safe.

The way i did it all by myself and almost cold turkey, is dangerous and you go through hell, and now i'm still on pain, unknown diagnosis, and with 2 or 3 Vico a days, but if i would have the money to spend in vacations, i would go for a complete detox.

Wish the best, and give it a second thought !

Kristy

You been on them a very short time,if I were you I would take a week off work if you can.Go cold turkey, the withdrawls won't be that bad.I'm betting by the 3rd day you will start feeling alot better.Do this now because if you keep taking them your in for one ****ty ride.I've been an addict for 25 years (clean for the last 3) so I know when I tell you that if you do it now you will be ok.Just remember after that you obviously have tendencies toward narcotic painkillers and would be best to steer clear of them.Good luck and let us know how you make out......Dave

P.S. You should get some immodium and advil gel caps.If your able to take something for sleep then do that too but no longer than a week......Dave

Thank you Dave and Kristy for your help. I drove to my doctors office on Friday and told her everything. She put me on a weaning dose of Darvan, a blood pressure patch, and also something for the stomach cramps. I will also be visiting their pain management program to talk to someone. The last morphine pill that I took was 30 hours ago and I just have a bad headache (nothing like 3 day ago when I tried to stop cold turkey).

I do think the quick detox in great for most people, but I know I can do this by myself (w/ help from my dr.), and still enjoy my much needed 4 day trip. I want to stop taking these pills soooooo bad. I have 4 days before I fly out and hope that I will feel normal by then. So far, so good.

I think the biggest barrier for me was telling at least 1 person( a friend who has been clean for 7 years) about the addiction. I went thru 2 years of vicodin addiction and then switched to the morphine a little over a month ago. Until now, not 1 person knew I was taking these pills. With having someone to talk to, I feel like it is going to be easier.

Thank you again for responding to my post and i hope if you are using or recovering, you will continue to stay strong.
