methadone treatment compared to suboxin treatment i am a heroin addict trying to figure out if i should get on the local methadone clinic or if i should see a doctor and get on a suboxin script.i was on the mett clinic for 7 years and was clean the entire time but it was very hard with my job to get there every morning to dose and to get to my counceling app. and my groups so i guess i am trying to figure out the pros and cons to each medication.please let me know if any advice or facts is out there from anyone. thank you -
If I were you I would go for the buprenorphene. The methadone clinics make it very hard for people who want to work and lead a normal life.Buprenorphene offers lots of freedom and has less side effects then methadone.I always suggest buprenorphene first and methadone as a very last resort....Dave -
Hey Dave Since you know alot about this I will just ask You, I ran into an old high school Friend last week I guess Since HS she has had a hard time with the Drugs, SO she got put on methadone
but they was she talked was like I am gettting High for free now and Everyone thinks she is clean but she says she gets a better high from the methadone than any pill she ever took SHe went on and one saying how she could be high for the rest of her life now and Never get into any trouble. I haven not seem this girl in yrs and why she told me this is a public Place, she was so loud about it I almost Died.
SO I guess my question is I know it helps alot with pain, but as far as for drug users I thought I was for BIG time drugs, and why to doc jump so qick to prescribe it when there are other things the help. I may be wrong but is metadone susposed to be short term for people ? Like I said I Dont know anything about it I am just curious about it.

That's exactly why I never recommend methadone for lite addicts or weekend user's.A seasoned addict won't get a buzz from methadone in fact when I started methadone I hadn't gotten a good buzz in over 15 years. This person should never have been put on methadone as she is obviously intolerent. In a couple of years her receptors will change shape and she will no longer get her buzz and then she's screwed because play time will be over. Then she will have to deal with either taking methadone for the rest of her life or starting a long drawn out detox. It's to bad really, a young girls life is shot and all because she's ignorant.I see this not so much now but a few years ago and now these people are on detox and trying to get their lives straitened out.....Dave -
hello all, i have just recently gone from subutex to methadone for my opiate addiction treatment. i have only been on it for two days, and so far so good. i wasn't on a very high dose of subutex so i'm not on a very high dose of methadone either, however the beautiful thing about methadone is that i'm in chronic pain from a rib injury that is being taken care of without me having to take painkillers that cause me to be more and more hooked. the methadone lasts 12 hours, and i'm taking about 20mg a day at this point. the only thing that worries me is that the doctor told me that if i feel any pain and if i'm on it longer the dose will be upped more and more. i'm not too worried though because i have a big stash of subutex and suboxone to bring me off of the methadone when the time comes. i don't want to be on it the rest of my life, but after a near two year bout with painkillers and morphine i need something right now to get me through the day. it's not a high, but it's better than nothing and just enduring pain all the time. my legs are still killing me for some reason though. i'm also finding that exercising every other day on my bowflex is helping he a lot too. that isn't a plug or anything it's just what i work out on. the resistance workout helps me heal better as opposed to my old routine of steroids and iron pumping workouts. another thing i wanted to state, i'm seeing a doctor, and i don't know if this is different in every state, but my psychiatrist here in texas is able to just give me a script of methadone for the month and i'm good to go. i don't have to go to a methadone clinic or anything like that. well i hope that helps someone get an idea of methadone. it's not all that bad. i'm sure in high doses i would be wasted, but i don't want to get wasted anymore, i just want to live happily without chronic pain and withdrawl. for now it's the right thing, but eventually i'll be done with all of this. god bless to all who are trying to get clean and living with the pain.
We were somewhere near barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... -
I tried suboxone and it did nothing to take away my cravings or withdrawl symptoms even though I was eating a ton of pills at a time. Switching to methadone was a god send to me. it was a pain at first to go every day, but I get 5 take homes a week now, so I only have to go twice a week. Going everyday was a small price to pay for me to get my life back. If this is the sacrifice I have to make to make my life happy and halthy and normal, then I will do it no matter what! -
buprenorphene is not very successful with hard core addicts. If you've been using daily for 5 years or more then likely methadone is for you. What people are doing is going on methadone, then stabilizing.Once they been stable for awhile they then start to detox down to 30mgs.Once they are stable at 30mgs of methadone they can then make a successfull jump to suboxone and go from there....Dave -
I have an idea for anyone who wants to try to kick a heroin or other opiate habit. Once, when I had a $50/day habit, I had an asthma attack. I took Primatene Mist for it since I had no insurance and I could steal that from the supermarket. Well, I had a bad reaction and it got worse and I had to go to the hospital. While there, I had so much trouble breathing that they eventually put me on a respirator and put me to sleep with general anesthesia. When I woke up three days later, I was already withdrawn from the drugs. I had been wearing a diaper and there was evidence of diarrhea, but that's all I could see. Whatever other symptoms I had, I slept through. So, maybe some people could withdraw while under general anesthesia? -
