Default Lexapro Withdrawals

My doctor put me on Lexapro about 2 years ago because of a stressful job and having 3 teenage boys at home. My doctor told me that it wasn't addictive and that I should tolerate it well. At first it worked great, but then I started noticing that my sex drive was all but gone. Over the last year I have changed jobs, all my boys have gotten older and I began to feel like myself again. I decided to quit taking Lexapro without researching the withdrawal symtoms that could occur. I quit cold turkey and within about 4 days began expreiencing restlessness, headaches, dizziness, fatigue and other flu like symtoms. I went to my doctor and told him how I was feeling and explained that I had quit taking the Lexapro. He didn't appear to be concerned that the physical symptoms and quit taking Lexapro might be related. Instead he ordered an MRI on my brain. I think this is rediculous. Has anyone else expreienced these symtoms and how long do they last? I don't want to go back on Lexapro or any other anti-depressant, but need to feel better.

hiya . was also on the dreaded lexopra as well but only for 5 weeks . also stopped it very adruptly as well . that was nearly 6 weeks ago and the withdrawals symptoms are still going strong . the reason why that i stopped it was because it worsened my depression and it was also making very suicidal as well . can't go back on it ever again . it was too potent for me . what you are experencing is definitely withdrawal symptoms from the lexopra and that is normal . there are supplements you can take and things that you can do that can help you during the withdrawal period and they are vitamin B-complex , milk thistle , multivitamins , magnesium and calcuim , omega 3 , 5-HTP , st john's wort , exercise , drinking lots of water and fruit juice to flush the toxic stuff out of your system , eating healthy fresh fruit and vegetables and accunpture . hope this helps you . if it gets too bad , you can always go back on the lexopra again and taper it off very slowly . either way , you still get the withdrawal symptoms . you can't win . the duration of the lexopra withdrawal can last up to 4 whole months . don't really know if that is true or not but that's what i heard . best of british luck to you . you will definitely need it ! I was reading an article about the sudden death of Anna Nicole Smith's son, Daniel, and noted that he was complaining of stomach pains the day he died, generally feeling unwell. After doing a thorough autopsy they have not found the exact cause, however, he has been taking the drug Lexapro, in the process of trying to get off the drug, reducing the dose per his doctor's instructions. From all that I have read about this drug, it sounds like a drug to avoid.

I took Lexapro for 2 yrs. 20 mg. I quit cold turkey one month ago. The first two weeks I felt fine. The third and fourth week have been the worst of my life. Dizziness, Sick to my stomach, electrical shocks, tingsin hands and feet, and then my whole right side started to feel numb. Doctor isn't convinced that it is lexapro withdrawal but I am. He said to go back to the lexapro 20mg and see if my symptoms clear up. He said it could take up to a week. I took one lexapro yesterday and one today and I am feeling 80% better. I am going to continue with the Lexapro for awhile, until I get moved and settled in my new house and then I am going to taper very, very slowly. I hope I won't have to experience these feelings again!
