| | You and I are kindred spirits. Thank you so much for helping me. This is the second day back on 5 mg and after a week if I still feel this weird I will go back up..maybe a mg at a time until the symptoms stop and then I can wean down later. My mother is not well and I am taking care of her and it is too much stress without help (like with your toddler!)
Do you think the supplements help? Which ones are you on? Quote:

u should see what i am taking right now!! what a coincidence. i am on an antibiotic called augmentin and supressant for my throat cuz i have a bronchial infection too. im taking the lexapro and the vitamins. i feel like all i am doing is popping pills.
getting back to ure question, when i originally went off lexapro a year ago, i did what u did and it was too fast. i had every withdrawal u can imagine. i was dizzy, i had brain zaps, i felt like i wasnt living in reality.i was crying and i was irritable. i was off lex for 1 week and then the doc put me back on the 10 mg after this happened. i decided to stay on them cuz they made me feel better and i had a toddler to take care of. i had to be sane.
i started feeling better after about a week again.
now ive decided to taper slow. i am on 7.2 ml (liquid) and i feel fine. however i know that once i get down to 50% (5 or 4ml) im sure i will feel a little weird, but not like last year because my brain is getting used to the low dosage that i am on now.
i guess it all depends on the person. i ve been on this drug for 3 yrs.
DO NOT FEEL WEAK FOR GOING BACK ON THEM. U HAVE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR U TO FEEL BETTER.

I DEFINITELY FEEL THE SUPPLEMENTS ARE WORKING, BUT I AM 100% SURE THAT THIS IS WORKING BECAUSE MY TAPERING IS VERY SLOW.
THIS IS DAY 8 ON 7.2 ML. AFTER DAY 14 I WILL GO DOWN TO 6.4ML FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS.
I AM ON A GENERIC BRAND OF OMEGA 3 FISH OIL AND A MULTIVITAMIN FROM THE GNC HEALTH STORE.

| | Tavee, It makes me feel so much better when I see that you have written back. I was feeling so alone. I can't stand being up all night but lying down makes the symptoms horrible..do you think it is because I started on 5 mg instead of my original 10,,,but it has only been two days. I am so dizzy and miserable...it makes me afraid to go to sleep..am I normal? Quote:

DO U TAKE THE MEDS IN THE MORNING OR NIGHT?
U SHOULD TAKE THEM FIRST THING IN THE MORNING CUZ IF U TAKE THEM AT NIGHT THEY KEEP U UP.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO TELL U ABOUT URE DIZZINESS. ARE U TAKING THE OMEGA 3? CAN U MAYBE TAKE A LITTLE MORE OMEGA 3 CUZ THAT HELPS WITH THE DIZZINESS.
U ARE DEFINITELY NORMAL. DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT. ITS THE LEXAPRO THAT IS CAUSING THIS OF COURSE.
WAIT TILL THE WEEKND AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
DID U HAVE SIDE EFFECTS WHEN U STARTED LEXAPRO THE FIRST FIRST TIME?
HANG IN THERE. WE WILL GET THRU THIS

I am taking the 5 mg. in the morning..this is the third morning I have been back on. I am still having "tragic"thoughts if you know what I mean..those thoughts that cause overwhelming ssdness. I am still dizzy or maybe it is more of the "whirling head" feeling. I am taking 4 Omega 3 in the morning and 4 at noon as it states in the Road Back program. This is my second day for that. How are you doing?

| | HELP ME--I was on 20mg of Lexapro for two years. I quit cold turkey and after about 6 weeks of hell (sick to my stomache, hands and feet tingling, electrical shocks, etc., etc.,) I went back on the 20mg and within a few days mostly all of the symptoms went away. Within a week I was back to normal again. Right before I started taking it again my whole right side was starting to go numb. I was going to take 10mg but my doctor said to go back to the 20mg. I am in the middle of moving right now, but after I get settled in I am going to taper very, very slowly. TO EVERYBODY OUT THERE--NEVER QUIT COLD TURKEY!!!! |

I forgot to mention that I did not have side effects in the beginning when I first began Lexapro, I don't think. I was so upset about my husband's illness and then, death, I would not have noticed a side effect.
Did you have really sad and panicky thoughts when you got off it the first time? Quote:

I WAS SAD WHEN I GOT OFF THEM LAST YEAR. MY FRIEND EVEN NOTICED.
I WAS VERY SAD AND EVERYTHING AROUND ME WAS UNREAL. I WAS CRYING UNCONTROLLABLY. I WAS ANGRY, IRRITABLE ETC.
I WAS ALSO VERY WORRIED. I WAS LIKE WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? WHEN I WENT BACK ON THEM I FELT WEAK TOO.I REALIZED I NEEDED TO BE ON THEM FOR MY SON. SO I PRETTY MUCH SAID I WILL TAKE THEM AS LONG AS I HAVE TO.BUT LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I WOULD LIKE TO TRY GETTING PREGNANT IN THE SUMMER SO I NEED TO GO OFF THEM.
I HATE TO SAY THIS BUT, IF NEEDED AFTER THE SECOND BABY IF ALL GOES WELL, I WILL GO ON THEM AGAIN CUZ I CANT BE DEPRESSED AND FEELING BAD AROUND A BABY.
I WILL DEFINITELY TRY TO DO WITHOUT THEM RIGHT NOW. SO FAR SO GOOD. THANK GOD.
I AM DOING GOOD DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE A FULL HOUSE RIGHT NOW WITH MY INLAWS AND IT IS A LITTLE STRESSFUL. IM DOING OK THOUGH.

| | I understand exactly how you feel..and felt. I have always been an anxious, high strung person, long before any medication. I also had post partum depression and my marriage was failing at the same time. That was 18 years ago. I never took anything back then. When I finally met the man I should have always been with I was really happy...and then he had cancer and died within a three month period. We had just moved to a new house to accomodate my mother, which has been very hard. I lost my dad a short while ago too and I am not sure I have the strength to watch my mother age and fail. Her health is not good. I am also watching over my mother in law who is 81 and alone. My son is my only strength and he is going away to college next year. So...since everything seems bleak I was doing great on the Lexapro.....until I weaned myself off. What a dumb time to do that.
It is not weak for you to think about doing what is best for you. My doctor said there are people with diabetes and thyroid disease on medication the rest of their lives. If Lexapro calms me down enough to get me through the hard stuff..what is the difference? I hate drugs though..and the weight gain is what made me try to wean them. Other than that I felt wonderful..like an imbalance was balanced.
Have you heard of anyone going off 10 mg, and then going back on 5 mg...and how long it takes to feel like a human again?
Tavee, I wish we could email. You have been helpful to a lot of people on here. I hate to lose touch with you. Quote:

| | Hi everyone - I can't believe there is a forum for this subject...Seeing the 165 pages makes me feel a little less alone!
HELP ME-I see that you take it in the morning...my doc actually told me to take it as night as it makes one drowsy. I cannot believe the amount of bad info that is out there! Maybe try that and see if it helps you sleep.
OK, now back to my own problems (yep-a little selfish!). I was on Celexa for 3 years and then was switched to Lexapro when my insurance company changed drug benefits (can you believe this is how we get our prescriptions?) Anyway, I was on 40 of celexa and then when I was switched to Lex I got horribly depressed as they assumed I only needed 10mg. I've never felt that way. Not even before I started taking the pills.
Anyway, I've been on 20mg for the last three years (so...doped up for a total of 6+) and just over a week or so ago, I missed a dose. (I'm in St. Louis and we've been partying pretty hard over the last month)...and then we were at another ball game the next night and missed another dose..felt fine, so I thought, I guess I just will not take it anymore. There was no realization or real reason behind it...I just thought hmmm, its been a couple days..if I feel like ****, I'll start it again. I didn't even concsiously decide to not take it until it had been a few missed days.
So, now, I'm finally getting to my question...I don't really have any of the withdrawal symptoms that everyone is talking about...maybe a little bit of chills and I might be a little short tempered...but its also coincidentally that week for me...
Am I in the clear? Has it not even been long enough to have withdrawal symptoms? Will I still get them? I do feel a little bit more "twitchy" (anxietous and jittery maybe) but my husband is worried that maybe I am at risk because I did it cold turkey. (I actually just told him last night that I hadn't been taking them) He hadn't noticed anything.
Any thoughts? Am I at any risk?
Thanks |

I actually weaned myself off of the Lexapro over a month's time. After I had taken the last pill, I spent the next week waiting for some sort of withdrawal..all I got was what you are decribing, a little jittery and a little dizzy at times. I was the end of the second week and into the third without the medication when all hell broke loose. Now I am back on 5 mg. when I was initially on 10. I have only been back on for three days and I still feel weird.
Some people have no withdrawal and some have a horrible time. My doctor says it takes 4 weeks for it completely leave your system. In that time there is a chance for problems. Let me know how you are doing. Quote:

it sounds like u have alot on ure plate.
in my opinion(because i was in the same boat) maybe u should have waited to go off the 10mg.
just like u said there are people who take diabetes, blood pressure meds etc for the rest of their lives. lexapro is the one that helps us and that is ok. we have an imbalance and this makes us better. there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!!
if u feel that this drug can help get thru all the things that u are going thru right now, then there is nothing wrong with that.
now is not a good time to go off them.maybe in a year or so.??
just think about it. i dont want to make ure decision for u, but u need to take care of some people and thats hard to do when u are not feeling well!!!
hang in there.
ps are u in west virginia or florida?

| | Someone please help. Almost all of my Lexapro withdrawal symptoms are gone and then a severe stomach pain began. Its in my lower stomach and when I move certain ways it feels a bit sharp. It tapers off sometime during the day and comes back and I have the runs.
Is this another withdrawal side effect that I did not know about? I don't remember reading anyone having this problem.
Its in my lower stomach allaround and its been happening for 3 days straight non stop. Pepto doesn't help
someone please help meh |

| | Hello to all. I am new here, and needless to say I am presently going through some major problems which, hopefully, are all related to having been on Lexapro for almost six (6) months. I had brain surgery for epilepsy in late February of this year and everything went well (so far - no seizures), but as a result, began suffering severe depression.
My neuorologist prescribed what he referred to as a "gentle" anti-depressant and recommended that I see at psychiatrist. I did a lot of research on-line and determined that the depression is actually normal after brain surgery. If my doctor would have told me that, I would have tried to get along without any added medications.
But anyhow, the Lexapro didn't really appear to do anything for me except make matters worse. I decided to wean off of them (which my doctor said I could just "stop taking them anytime"). I took 5 mg each day for two (2) weeks, with the last day being on October 3, 2006.
In addition, about two (2) months after starting the Lexapro (10 mg), I began having spells with severe ear ringing in both ears, which I thought was the start of a seizure on-set. I had them about once or twice a month. I believe now, however, that the ear ringing spells were actually a result of the Lexapro, and I have been dealing with extreme ringing in my ears for the past three (3) weeks.
Needless to say to any of you, since the time that I got off the med, it has been living hell - severe dizziness, shaking, ear ringing, more extreme depression, and being scared to death that my seizures are going to come back.
I guess I'm just looking for any possible advise or knowledge that anyone else might have pertaining to the ear ringing and other side effects.
Thanks for listening and Good Luck to Everyone on Here! |

I just looked up some information on-line pertaining to the numerous side effects of withdrawal from Lexapro and located a site. I have attached the details below from the site, which does, in fact, say about abdominal pain. It appears that this could be the actual cause of your problem. Hopefully, this will help put you at ease and all will get better soon. I wish you good luck!
" Discontinuation from antidepressants, especially abruptly, has been known to cause certain withdrawal symptoms. One possible discontinuation symptom from Escitalopram is a type of spontaneous nerve pulse known as paresthesia or "electric shock sensations", described by some patients as a feeling of small electric shocks, which may be accompanied by dizziness. These pulses may be short in duration, only milliseconds long, may affect any region of the body, and recur up to several times a minute, throughout all waking hours. They can be increased by physical activity, but are not solely linked to muscular activity. Other discontinuation symptoms include extreme sensitivity to loud sounds and bright lights, chills, hot flushes, cold sweats, reddening of the face, [u]abdominal pain</u>, weight gain and extreme mental fatigue. Also possible is severe irritability and sadness/depression like symptoms." |

| | help me and tavee,
i've been on vacation all week and just got back. had a great time and i'm feeling amazing. down to 3/4 of a milligram!!! yieepie.
Help Me,
i'm not sure if this is a good time to be getting off unless you really need to get pregnant, but of course, it's up to you. even
going to 5 mg is a HUGE jump so you are going to feel plenty of withdrawals and side effects. if you want to feel "normal" i think u should go back to 10 mg. it may take a couple days. i mean, i'm not a doctor but that's what it sounds like. you are not crazy. all those things u r feeling are typical.
brian,
aren't you done with the withdrawals? that might be something different if that's the case. stomach flu? bad fish? hmmmmm....
Desert,
don't know about blackouts during withdrawals. i know that black
outs happen during panic attacks.
to all: I WILL BE INVESTIGATING THE LAWSUIT. WE WILL NEED AT LESAT 50 MORE PEOPLE. SO FAR THERE'S HELP ME, TAVEE, ME, AND WHO ELSE? i"ll need SIGNATURES. but we'll get into that later. ya'll don't disappear now. |

| | Hi all, I haven't posted for a while. My first two postings are on pages 150 and 151. I am now successfully off of Lexapro. I think when I last posted I was down to 10 mg (started out at 40 mg). I went from 10 mg to 5 mg, increasing it up to 10 mg on days I felt withdrawal symptoms. Then when I was steadily on 5 mg with no problems, I tried going to none and took 5 mg on days I felt withdrawal symptoms.
I still have a lot of ups and downs with my emotions and with sexual stuff and trouble with my memory and ability to focus and am not sure what it's all from. I hadn't posted for a while because the friend I had said was in the hospital a couple of months ago died on September 12 and so there's been some emotional roller coaster stuff with that, although it's getting easier. Plus I have a hard time making myself go to bed at night so I am sure my erractic sleep schedule isn't helping things any.
I had said I was starting on the CLA for weight loss, but I stopped doing that because I ran out and wanted to get the lexapro finished first. So now I've been back on the CLA for a couple of weeks now and will wait and see how the weight loss goes.
I started to read some of the postings on pages 150-156 and then skipped to the end, but I did notice that other people were also using The Road Back at www.theroadback.org and I noticed that someone said they could not find the power barley anywhere. I used regular barley grass powder, that's what it is basically with a few added things. There's some on amazon.com and I also purchased some at a General Nutrition Center (GNC).

| | Sarita, No, I don't need to get pregnant, my kids are grown. I went completely off Lexapro for almost three weeks and then back on 5 mg. I was originally on 10. I am still dizzy with strange panicky thoughts. If I were to stay on the 5 mg.. I wonder how long it will take for those feelings to go away? Quote:

help me and tavee,
i've been on vacation all week and just got back. had a great time and i'm feeling amazing. down to 3/4 of a milligram!!! yieepie.
Help Me,
i'm not sure if this is a good time to be getting off unless you really need to get pregnant, but of course, it's up to you. even
going to 5 mg is a HUGE jump so you are going to feel plenty of withdrawals and side effects. if you want to feel "normal" i think u should go back to 10 mg. it may take a couple days. i mean, i'm not a doctor but that's what it sounds like. you are not crazy. all those things u r feeling are typical.
brian,
aren't you done with the withdrawals? that might be something different if that's the case. stomach flu? bad fish? hmmmmm....
Desert,
don't know about blackouts during withdrawals. i know that black
outs happen during panic attacks.
to all: I WILL BE INVESTIGATING THE LAWSUIT. WE WILL NEED AT LESAT 50 MORE PEOPLE. SO FAR THERE'S HELP ME, TAVEE, ME, AND WHO ELSE? i"ll need SIGNATURES. but we'll get into that later. ya'll don't disappear now.

| | Unique,
Oh Lord. I just PRAY that when i'm off this stuff i'll get my SEX DRIVE back. It has been just awful, awful, awful for me and my husband. I just ordered the CLA too but i'm going to wait also until i'm off this stuff. I started at 5 mg. and i've been tapering for about 6 months. I'm down to 3/4's of a milligram. I think the hardest part is getting completely off so the last milligram i'm going super duper slow.
How long have you completely stopped? It takes about 45 days to get out of our system. I had memory loss while i was on lexipro but now it's SO much before. I think you are just in a fog and it'll come back as soon as you stop. DOn't worry. I had the same thing.
Help,
For you, you are having withdrawals from getting off AND side effects for going back on. It's a Catch 22. Maybe take alittle bit more on bad days? like one ml.?
I was told to take it at night too and i sleep great. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
