Do I have to take meds for IBS all my life or is there
a time period for taking them? -
Hello...fellow sufferer of IBS...
I have suffered from irritable bowel system most of my adult life. I'm 56. Whether I'm happy, sad, excited, I have to "run". I have used the prescription Immodium the whole time. I don't use it constantly, just when I need it.
Now, I have to buy it over-the-counter. And, yes, I probably will be using it for those bad times of attack, all my life. I don't use it constantly, though, like I used to do, and I find it works a lot better.
When symptoms are mild, I try to get through it without Immodium, but more than 2 "trips" and I will take it.
I feel for you, fellow sufferer, as I also know how aggrivating it can be. I hope my answer was of some help to you

My daughter has irritable bowel syndrome and a dr. told her to take Mirilax every day. That has helped her a lot. In fact, in made her symptoms go away for a long time, and she was able to even quit taking the Mirilax. But the IBS Symptoms came back eventually. So its a maintenance thing with the Mirilax. I guess use as needed.
