Default I have bad anxiety, and can no longer sleep

    Hi,
I am 29, healthy girl. The last few months I have had several panic attacks, for no reason. The ONLY thing going on in my life are financial issues, witch do cause a lot of stess. But I am gererally a happy person. I only get 2 visits a year covered under my insurance, so I have been to the Dr once. When I went in January it was because I couldn't sit still one night, heart pounding, I almost had my husband take me to the ER. But I somehow managed to get through it, no sleep, and straight to the Dr. SHe put me on 1mg xanax, and that has helped a little. But now I cannot sleep. This is the 2nd night I have not slept. I am about to fall asleep, then wake suddenly with rapid heart beat, and feel like my heart is skipping beats. I am going to go back into the Dr soon, but wanted some advice on what to tell her, so I can get on the right medication. I am not depressed, I just fear everything. I fear my kids will drown, or I have nightmares about them choking, just weird things that are not normal. I have been having to double even triple up on zanax, but my DR seems reluctent to give me refills on the zanax. I just want to feel normal again. Like I said I am healthy, work out everday. Now I can't sleep and I feel afraid to fall asleep. I am not getting better. Any advice welcome please!

The doctor is refusing to refill your xanax becasue, as you just admitted, your sometimes doubling or even tripling the dosage. As to what you should tell the doctor-EVERYTHING you just mentioned here. Doctors can only help you when you are open and honest about what's going on; they can only treat what they have been informed of. You should not be afraid to tell the doctor about all the "weird" things you've been afraid of and worried about. Telling the doctor everything that's going on will help him/her help you. Good luck!

Psyched is correct. Drs can only help if they know what's happening. Instead of being on a medication that you find yourself tripling the dose on you need to be on a med that you will take as directed.

Unless the dr knows what affect the xanax is having he won't know what to RX for you. Drs are not the enemy if we give them a chance in most situations. Regardless they have to be told as they positively aren't psychic. They are not "all knowing."

Drs were trained only to diagnose based on symptoms and what information they gather. They need the whole story to have a chance to help you. God bless.
I am not a dr. My statements are based on years of experience and related education. Consult with the professional of your choice regarding matters of concern.
