Help Weening Off Methadone.........???

I am currently on 250mgs of methadone...I have been going to my clinic now for 3years as of this month...Time to come down!!...However I am about to start college soon...according to a lot of the threads I have read people say they are still feeling the effects of coming down on their dose even after months or up to a year...People even say they feel as if they are going crazy and it's even hard to write sometimes.Is there anyone that knows of any Homeopathic, Herbal remedies or anything else that may help with the side effects of weening off of my Methadone??...I know it will not be easy but, anything would help! I hear that taking Iron pills help.Thank you in advance for any help!

I have been on methadone for 5+ years now and for the first 3 years I took 400mgs a day.
2 years ago I had a very strong feeling that I could come down on my dose.I dropped 20mgs a month until I hit 300mgs.I stayed at 300mgs for a good 6 months and then started the same decrease.I'm now at 200mgs a day and I feel better now then when I was at 400mgs.
You have to come down very slowly on methadone otherwise you're just going to feel lousy alll the time.It's the biggest mistake people make with methadone.They treat it like morphine or heroin.Those drugs are short acting were methadone has a half life of up to 48 hrs.
A decrease in dose takes about 5 days to level out in the methadone serum blood levels.If you're going to wean right off methadone then you are going to need a couple years to do.If you don't take the time then you will fall into the symptoms you describe in your post also know as PAWS (Post Acute Withdrawl Syndrome).Anyway, take your time and think about jumping over to buprenorphene when you get down to 30mg of methadone a day.Good luck.....Dave

Thanx a lot for your post!!...Coming down slow seems to be the general consensis....But, 5mgs a week seems like a good bit?..I was thinking like 5mgs like every 2 weeks or something...I mean at the most,anyways. I don't really even know what I'm afraid of, to be honest with you?.. I really do what to be free from the "Pink Handcuffs." Again thank you for your post!...Take care...
