Default help me get off oxycodone! please =(

My name is chris im 20 years old. im an athlete and still play my sport everyday at a high level. last march i had an injury which led to 2 surguries. they gave me 5mg oxycodone at the time. after only takin slow and little amounts of the pills just to heal pain i didnt think it would do much damage cuz i actually needed them. its now november, almost december, and i have been take 1-2 30 MG roxycodone a day. mostly 1 a day only occasionally 2. i lie to every one.. my parents, my girlfriend (who iv been dating for almost 4 years) i dont know what to do. i really want to try to quit but im terrified of the withdrawals. i dont think they should be THAT bad cuz i only do 30 mg a day most of the time but the withdrawls still will be bad. its been 8 months now i have been taking oxycodone and i need to stop. i keep saying ill quit cold turkey next week next week next week. i use all my money i get/have on the pills and i hate lying to my parents. i am an only child and my parents have done soooooo much for me my entire life they have spoiled me. it would break their hearts to know whats going on. i never have done a pill in my life before this, and i am a good kid. i dont want this addiction to put me in a "bad person druggy" category. i need to quit and stop without anyone knowing. i dont want to use suboxone cuz i herd u can get addicted to that too. can anybody out there help me?

Chris, your honesty is awesome! Your love for your family and girlfriend is a great push in the right direction. There is no easy way. It has to be done. Please read the Thomas Recipe. It has helped many, many people with opiate detox. You will not feel great, days 2-4 will be yucky, there is no getting around that. You will not die, you will feel like you have a pretty bad flu. If you follow the recipe to the letter it will lessen most of the severe symptoms. You have to wrap your mind around being clean and free from the pills, the mental part is huge. You are already on your way because you want it. Don't give up, keep moving forward. Pray!! Please post and let us know how you are doing and what questions you have and let everyone here encourage you to be strong, send you hugs and internet comfort, this forum has been a life saver to me. I am doing a taper off of norco and percs, it has been hard, but is getting easier every day because of the strength and encouragement I receive from the people on this forum who have been there, done that. You are in my thoughts and prayers today. Love, Marta

    Hi Chris,
I would suggest tapering down to as little as possible before quitting.. Even then maybe switch to something less strong like some 5mg hydros for a short while then stop at 2.5mg of the hyrdo.. Maybe then your w/d would be less intense. Good luck with everything, you will have to be strong and have your mind set on it but you for sure can do it !

helpmedownfromhere is right with everything in the post, and this forum has been a great help to me as well ! If I was here while kicking oxy's and Fentaynl Patches I prolly could have skipped the hole suboxone treatment which was worse for me.
    Good luck,
    JA

I agree with both of them. Talk to your doctor for a small dose and taper down. While tapering you want to take the smallest dose possible and stretch each pill out as long as possible. Also use the thomas recipe when you start your detox. You're still very young and can fight through this no problem. Just think of it as a week long flu

    Default Hi Chris...

Please post so we know what's going on with you! My use/abuse was similar to yours. I used the Thomas Recipe and it sure as heck worked for me. I modified it a bit to suit my own needs, but nothing radical. Just not using too much Valium, only I a night for sleep, and I added a bunch of OTC supplements. I'm on somewhere between 11 and 13 days free of all opiates, and yes, it's true, it gets better every day. And man, I think one thing we all can agree on here is that IT'S WORTH IT! Let us know how you are..

    Default hey guys

hey guys.. thank you all for posting! i really do appreciate everything everyone has to say! i have not quit yet, i did a pill about 3 or 4 hours ago. i cannot do the the thomas recipe because i cannot get my hands on valium, unless i buy it from the streets (where i get my oxy). i am sooo scared of having bad withdrawals because i play my sport very competitevly. i am the assistant captain of my undefeated team. i am getting scouted by colleges and maybe professionals. im scared i will not be able to perform well with my flu-like withdrawals. i cannot ask a doctor for smaller amounts of the drug because i have been buyin them off the streets since july. i will try to taper down everytime i buy one, but is there anything i can replace the valium with in the thomas recipe? i can get everything else im pretty sure. and keep in mind, wen i quit everything has to be done secretly! nobody (especially my parents) can know! will they be able to tell im goin through withdrawals? should i fake sick for a week?? should i tell my coach and parents im sick? reply back asap! thank you so much guys.. i havent even tried to quit yet but i know with the help of you guys i will be able to.

    Chris,

I feel the need to reply to your post because my addiction started when I was 20 years old as well. I also played sports and have a good family. I basically had surgery twice and was prescribed liquid roxicet. I went through several bottles due to surgery complications. To make a long story short, when I healed from the surgery and the doctor didnt prescribe me anymore I felt awful. I didnt know what was wrong with me or why I was feeling this way because I didnt think I was hooked. Guess what, I WAS HOOKED AND ADDICTED. I started purchasing pain killers off the streets because they were as available all the time. I ended up moving out of state for work and had no connects and truly feel that saved my life, I was sober for almost 4 years. Recently I have been using for the past 3 months, about 30mg a day. I am on day 5 cold turkey. Please just stop now, because it is only going to get worse the more you do them. I have been doing it WITHOUT any valium, subs, methadone, otc, nothing but doing it cold turkey. I had a chance to get those items but I didnt want them because I knew they would make me feel better. I want to go through the withdrawal so I can feel how bad it is so i dont use again. Please just stop now, and deal with your body feeling uncomfortable for a few days. I feel better but i still have diarrhea, loss of appetite and anxiety. I am hoping it will go away soon.

Chris, I feel your pain. I have been addicted to oxycodone for over year now and consume 210-300 mgs per day. The withdrawal is absolutely agonizing. I do not recommend detoxing cold turkey. It is dangerous. Yes, Suboxone is also addictive but the withdrawal is much less severe and it can be very effective in helping with recovery. IMO Suboxone is the best tool to detox safely from Oxycodone. Good luck.
