| | HELP GUYS - little accident (mags) Hi-
I fell today, tripped over a rug and fell head first into a dresser with a mirror sitting on top. Really messed up my face, nose, lips, etc. What a mess.
My problem now is, my face is throbbing, very painful and now I have developed an excrutiating headache. In a lot of pain. Did not let them give me anything at the hospital. I started Suboxone two weeks ago, taking 8mg now and going to start tapering next Monday.
My nose is pretty mess up. I was coping with the pain okay until the throbbing and terrrible headache. Took aspirin, no help.
Robert, Melinda, etc. What does someone do in this situation. If I HAD to take some kind of pain med would it RUIN everthing? Also, would anything work since there is Naltrexone in the suboxone.
I'm trying like hell to get through this, but the pain is increasing. DAM IT!
Any info would be of help.

Sorry to say I don't have any answers. I just wanted to let you know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could help more, but I don't know much about Sub.

Hi Mags ... I'm so sorry this happened to you! I hope you're not hurt too badly. Accidents happen, it's just a drag it had to happen right now while you're in the middle of trying to change your life.
Having accidents is one of the potential negatives of being on suboxone. It's not the naloxone that adversely affects the pain meds working it's the buprenorphine. The buprenorphine is in subutex too only it doesn't have the naloxone. The naloxone just puts a patient into precipitated w/d if they inject or snort the subs. That is it! And the naloxone only lasts a couple hours to be honest. It has almost NO half life at all.
I won't sit here in judgement and tell you to not take anything for pain. That is not my place or my right. There are times when pain meds are justified obviously. You know if this is one of those times or not. It sounds like you got banged up pretty good. Again I'm sorry.
You can still get SOME pain relief from opiates, it will just take more than usual. It can be dangerous for lots of addicts using while on subs as they are chasing a high when they use. If you're hurting badly enough mags get something from the dr and take it. I would do it myself if I hurt badly enough.
I can't tell you exactly how much oxy for example you would need. In an ER I know they usually will give maybe 5-10mg of oxycodone for an injury. So if I were in your situation and decided to take something I would probably try 10mg first and see if it did anything. You'll likely end up needing more like 20mg honestly to receive ANY benefit. We are all different as you know being a nurse. I can assure you that you would need a larger than normal dose and all you would get out of it would be SOME pain relief, there wouldn't like be ANY high with it. Of course you don't want to get high anyway. I know you've been trying too hard for that.
You can email me anytime you need to if I can help. If you do get some medication let me know. Probably would be best to discuss that in an email so we aren't discussing using drugs on the forum. Don't want to throw anyone here off into a relapse reading about using. I received your email about this so you know how to reach me. Don't hesitate to contact me if I can help you further. God bless.

mags | Hi Kids-
Thanks so much for your help....annotheradict thank you for your kind words.
After my initial post, I decided to just try to go to bed and sleep the pain away. I was able to get to sleep and slept all night. Woke up this morning very sore, but no headache and less pain. I was very determined not to take anything for pain, but was getting a little worried.
Thanks Robert and Melinda, just knowing that you guys are always out there with comforting and wise words helps enormously.
Yeah, stitches in my lip and my nose is so swollen - not sure quite yet what is going to happen with my nose, too swollen right now to know if it will need some kind of manipulation/surgery or what. I have to wait for the swelling to subside.
Otherwise, I'll be fine now. I'll check in Monday after I decrease my dose to 6 mg.
Thanks again!

| | You're amazing mags. Most anyone would have used that as a very good reason to take something. Can't even say I wouldn't have taken something. But with your attitude I know now that you're going to be successful with the suboxone. I think you've already won, you've just got to ride out the time now. I'm so happy you got through last night and are still on the road to being totally clean. That is a miracle. God bless.

| | Mags,
I just wanted to say that I am glad you made it through! That was definitely a test of your willpower, and you passed with flying colors I am a CP patient, so I know it's no fun being in pain...but for me I would rather be in pain then have to go back to the life I was living before. I try to look at the pain as something to make the pain free days better...without a little rain we wouldn't appreciate sunshine.
I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Both for your recovery from the fall and recovery in general. Hope you have a great day.

| | Just a little diddy about the decrease your planning?
If your in a lot of pain it might not be the best time to go down on your dose of subs? Maybe hold off a week or so....just to be safe? That way you wont be in pain and in withdrawal and even more tempted to use?
Be well! |

| | You Guys Rock Hi All (R,M,AA, etc)
I just want to say thanks so much for your encouragement. Ya know, I HAVEN'T been proud of myself in many years and it was soooo nice to FEEL proud. Knowing I have all of you cheering me on helps tremenously.
My face is starting to come back a bit, less swelling, etc. I am so thankful it wasn't worse, I could have lost all my front teeth (which cost me $8,000.00 a few years ago...hehehe..HOW WOULD I HAVE EVER REPLACED THAT So, all in all I'm grateful.
I hope all of you are doing okay. Anybody know what happened with "Blu" the woman with the infected incision? I can't remember the thread title, but I'll look it up again. I sooo hope she got to another physician.
My Helz seems to be clipping along! I'm so happy for him and he's proving to be a real asset here. Good job H.
Haven't read much from Musicman or Freedom. Hope you guys are doing well. Musicman you seem to lurk around and observe a lot
Alright, just checkin in. Happy Easter All

| | I'm glad you're doing better mags! You should be proud of yourself. You showed a lot of determination not using. Lots of people would have given in if in the same situation you were in.
You have a happy Easter too. Melinda and I attended a great Good Friday service last night and are attending another special service tonight. Of course we will be there in the morning. This is kind of a big weekend for Christians! God bless.
