Default Help Addicted Dilaudid or Hydromorphone Addiction

Hi, I am new here and am dealing with an addiction to painkillers called Dilaudid or generic brand called Hydromorphone. Has anyone had to deal with these painkillers and if so could you give me any advice on what I am in for on quitting these drugs. By the way this drug is injectable. Please help!!

iF YOU'VE BEEN INJECTING THEN YOU WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY NEED MEDICAL INTERVENTION.Whoops sorry about the caps.Methadone is one choice for you.If you've been injecting for over 2 years then definately check out methadone. If your under 2 years the try and find a doctor that prescribes buprenorphene.Good luck and remember your taking a very strong narcotic and your going to need help getting off of it....Dave

I also had a problem with dilaudid. I was taking it only as pills - but up to 150 mg/day. I fortunately found a doctor who was willing to give me a try at home detox. I tapered down in about 3-4 weeks and then was off completely. I needed medication to help with the withdrawl - clonidine, valium and stuff for stomach cramps. I can say that I did not really feel normal for about 3-4 months. But I was clean for over 4 years. Unfortunately I had pain during my pregnancy and my docotrs (different ones) decided to put me on methadone. I just came off that. As bad as it was, it was not nearly as bad as the dilaudid.
If you are injecting, though, you should see a doctor who can check for things like hepatitis and HIV and make sure your liver is ok and stuff.
Anyhow, there are newer treatments out there, but the important thing given the type of med you are on is NOT to do this on your own but to find a doctor who is really willing to work with you.
How much are you taking? DO you have any pain or is it purely for the high? These will also help determine how you should be treated.
Let me know if I can offer more advice.
