going from durgesic to methadone bad idea?

i recently lost insurance so i cant afford my 5mg patches, dr said i could take up to 4 methadones a day instead and they are cheap...im also on 120mg of oxycontin ...all for back and discs...im almost out of patches and i dont know if i like the idea of methadone
please help
