Default Drug Combinations for Bipolar

I was prescribed xanax for anxiety related to a recently diagnosed bipolar disorder.
This does help the anxiety, but is not doing anything for the mood swings.
Still going through the bouts of depression and manic highs.
Need to know what I need for the actual Bipolar disorder that wont affect the xanax.
Long story short. if theres someone here with the same condition, what combinations should I try?

there's all types of combos for bipolar. let me tell ya. i've been through several cocktails. the best i've found is wellbutrin (antidepressant), lithium (mood stabilizer), lamictal (specifically for bipolar) and klonopin (antianxiety). xanax is awesome for stopping the anxiety right away, but it doesn't last long. klonopin is almost identical to xanax but lasts longer. so it evens you out almost all the time rather than having a huge anxiety thing, then good because of the xanax, then huge anxiety thing. it limits the fluctuating. but, don't get discouraged. it will take time for the docs to determine what's the best set for you.

I also suffer from bipolar after several years of trying all kinds of combinations of meds. I have had the most success with Klonopin for anxiety and Lamotrigine for mood swings. Just to give you some other options.
