Default Detox problem

I have posted on another board, but I did not have an answer. I am reposting here in hope that someone might help and answer...

My husband had a small, but real addiction to Lortab. He was taking 15-20 10mgs a day. He had 2 dr. prescribing it (He has a chronic pain condition) and his grandmother could get a RX. He still ran low at the end of the month. The last time, he felt that we needed to get past this dependency. We went to a methadone clinic. They almost didn't take him because he is not "that addicted". Well, he started on the Methadone 2 weeks ago today and is at 40mg. His plan was not to go any higher and start tapering off. They said they would help him at the clinic. For the past few days he has been sweating a great deal. Today his heart was racing and he thought he was going to die. He asked to go up because he was having bad symptoms. The dr. is out of town for the holiday and won't be back until Monday. He has 2 doses in his lock box for Thursday and Friday. He took another 20 mg and he felt better. He then went to his GP to see if anything else was going on. His GP got really mad at him for going to the methadone clinic in the first place and said he wouldn't help him at all. What do you do when there is no one to help you do anythign?Plus he will not make it until Monday now that he is taking more. I am sure he will get kicked out. Can he take more Lortab to kick the withdrawl . Will that make it worse? AHH

jjslp; 1st of all the meth. blocks the loratab ,he would just be wasting it,sounds like he needs to go up on his methadone,I took that many pills a day and more ,I was stabilized at90 mg.on methadone per day, have him take a little more of what hes got in the bopx ,maybe little sip and let the doc know mon. what has been going on w/ him, take notes and show the doc.if he is going to be difficult about it,also they can't just cut you off the doses of meth.all at once they have to detox you pretty slow, take care hope I was a lil help Tamm Happy Thanksgiving!!!

JJSLP,

Depends upon your husband's objective...yep the loratab will fill the opiate receptors..but will continue the cycle of increasing meds.

If hub has CHRONIC PAIN that is real, then he must be placed on a basal amount of time release medication for pain, then use limited loratab for BREAK THRU Pain...Time release opiates include oxycontin, ms contin, fentanal patches, duragesic patches, et al et al.

He needs a pain clinic. Do not allow him to continue with the illegal scrambling and using GM's meds...it will blow valid treatment in a Pain Center or Treatment Ctr. Need more info on the source of chronic pain...and other options to consider for treatment.

Kind regard,
Paul Remski
